Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds

Psalm 1

Psalm 1

1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
    whatever they do prospers.

4 Not so the wicked!
    They are like chaff
    that the wind blows away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

6 For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)

Before introducing a new Topical Study, I would like to go through Psalms again. Psalms is the Prayer & Songbook of the Bible, and we all could use some Prayer!

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Nine-Year-Old Andy was astonished that I do all my banking, blogging, email, graphics, music, and videos on a ten-year-old Mac Mini computer with an OS10.6 Operating System. Since Andy's Daddy is a Software Engineer who actually designs these things, Andy has all the latest stuff. It was incomprehensible that his music teacher, who was so hip in other ways, was using a using a computer that was older than he was!

"But a NEW MAC Mini with the OS10.13 Operating System is ONLY $700.00!" he said. "Why don't you just go to the Apple Store and buy a new one?"

I patiently explained to him that buying a new computer would mess everything up for me, because all of my business accounts would have to be transferred over to the new device, involving multiple passwords, and all my musical compositions, every story from this very thread, templates, all my photos from the last ten years, and, basically, my entire LIFE would have to be transferred from one device to another. Besides, (and he found this to be the most incomprehensible of all), I don't have $700.00." I told Andy that:

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

This conversation did bring me to the conclusion that, although I could not afford a new computer, I SHOULD back up my data. So I bought a stack of writable CD's and started the process. The Ten-Year-Old Mac was not cooperating. No matter what kind of media I inserted, it would spit it out. I tried returning one box of CD's and trying a different type. Nothing worked. Now I knew that if my computer finally bit the dust, I would lose ten years of my life's work...just like that.

I finally bit the bullet and called the local Apple Store. I dreaded going there, because it has always been a GEEK ZOO, and now even worse due to COVID (Long lines, restricted hours, etc), but the only solution I could see happening would be to bring the unit to the store, buy a new one for $700.00 (which I don't have), and have a technician transfer all the data into a new Mac Mini. It would probably cost even MORE than $700.00 because of the services to be performed, propriety equipment (keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc) but I prepared myself for the worst.

After a bit of redirection in the automated phone, I got connected to a very young man named Brian. As Brian listened patiently, I poured out my tale of woe, being careful to use all the right words, such as:

"Although it is a testament to the fine quality of your awesome product, the 10.6 Operating System is no longer adequate for my needs. How can I upgrade without losing ten years of data?"

Brian had a solution that did not involve buying a new computer. He told me he could update the operating system OVER THE PHONE FOR FREE. I mentioned the loss of data which could occur. Brian suggested I purchase a portable drive, store all the data onto it, upgrade the operating system, and then reload the data. What could have been an $1800.00 purchase was now reduced to $85.00 for the drive, which should arrive in the mail next week. Brian said to call back after I receive the drive and he will walk me through the upgrade. He finished the conversation with these words:

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Today we start a prayerful Journey through Psalms. We have looked at Psalms before, as Scripture, as Prophecy, and as Music, but it is essentially a PRAYER BOOK. David, a Musician and Songwriter, expressed his soul to God in Song, but even without the melodies, we know these are PRAYERS, and can meditate upon them as our own. Most of the data I want to preserve onto the portable drive are my own prayers and songs, some of which are based upon these wonderful Psalms. In these songs, I tried to keep the language of the Psalms as intact as possible while fitting it into modern melodies. After all,

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I will post the lyrics of Psalm 1 in my next comment on this thread.

Psalm 1 contrasts two men who live in two different worlds. The Man who is "Blessed" meditates on the Word of God. The Man who is a scoffer will not stand in the judgement. How can two groups of people so opposite coexist on the same planet?

My Mac Mini Story is a gentle reminder how people live in totally different worlds and yet are able to interact daily. Andy, Brian, Andy's Dad, and the folks waiting in line at the Apple Store live in a world where getting the latest Smart-Phone and constantly buying new stuff is a way of life. To me, "New Stuff" are just useful tools for writing new melodies to 3000-year-old Prayers. Remember:

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America!

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

I love how Palm 1 begins with the declining position toward evil. The blessed man recognizes the first how to not walk, then stand, then sit. He is not even going to walk the path.

Blessed is the oman
who WALKS NOT in path of the wicked
and STANDS NOT stand in the way of sinners,
And SITS NOT In the company of mockers.

In my Bible, I’ve crossed out the pronoun “man” and written my name there to personalize this strong wisdom to me personally as a lamp to guide.

Maranatha!

Amen! The Psalms are deeply personal, and yet, universal at the same time!

Blessed is the man
who WALKS NOT in path of the wicked
and STANDS NOT stand in the way of sinners,
And SITS NOT In the company of mockers.

It's one thing to walk. It's safer to walk through danger than to stand still in it. And it is even worse to SIT down in the midst of it. So the Blessed man (or woman) doesn't even want to get started in evil by walking, even less, standing or sitting in it!

You have been listening to and obeying the Holy Spirit! That, applying His Word to oneself, is His highest ideal in Bible study. Ooooh, you're going to be an interesting companion in heaven!

To guard against fire and theft, you might also consider (a) backing up your data to "the cloud" and (b) emailing it to yourself.

Let's all Pray for the Peace of (1) Jerusalem and (2) your data!

THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

ETTER is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. ________________________________________________Psalm 1:1-6 (KJV)

Thanks for the link!

The Interpretation of Psalm 1 is very personal. The “Sons of Korah” sing it as an Israeli-Style Folk Melody.

Mine (above) is a Reggae Tune.

Inductive study!

As a follow-up...
I get a charge out of the amplified Bible

Here is Psalm 1 for comparison...

“Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked [following their advice and example],
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit [down to rest] in the seat of scoffers (ridiculers).”

Have a great weekend
