PARIS — The first eight oak trees destined to replace the destroyed spire of Paris’s scorched Notre Dame cathedral have been selected from the Bercé forest in the French Loire region, church officials said on Friday.
The iconic, 315 foot spire was completely destroyed in the fire that ravaged the Paris monument in 2019. It was made by architect Viollet-le-Duc in 1859.
“It is a source of pride for the foresters of the National Forestry Office to participate in the rebirth of Notre-Dame de Paris,” said Forestry Office Director Bertrand Munch.

Having worked in the forest product industry for 40 years, I can only imagine the years of permits and hearings/fines if a company said they were going to cut down 1000 “old growth” oaks.
Looks like they could make then out of stainless with an oak veneer on the outside so no one could tell the difference. Hard to imaging it surviving 200 years.
This wasn’t the work of Muslims. Notre Dame that is. Not the MO of Muslims in France to attack Christian sites, especially in a country where only 5% attend church.

The spire was stupid. It was not Iconic. Hardly anyone knew it was there. The front facade, the flying buttress’, the gargoyles, the rose window, and the two bell towers are all iconic. The stupid spire that was the wrong style and placed there 600 years after the cathedral was built, was not iconic. It was far to small to be noticed. And far to modern to fit the building. The spire was probably burned by God, who’s sense of style was offended by the ugly appendage.

I find all of that to be true.
The Church was extremely seriously damaged way beyond the spire. I’d be fine with fixing up the place and eschewing the Spire.
Worst anti-Christian violence by Muslims occurs in Africa.
And the mosque will have more French worshippers than ND has had in the past years. I will not contribute a euro to the rebuilding of the cathedral if Catholics themselves do not use it.
