Amen !!! <><

Psalm 25

Of David.

1 To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
2 O my God, in you I trust;
do not let me be put to shame;
do not let my enemies exult over me.
3 Do not let those who wait for you be put to shame;
let them be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.

4 Make me to know your ways, O Lord;
teach me your paths.
5 Lead me in your truth, and teach me,
for you are the God of my salvation;
for you I wait all day long.

6 Be mindful of your mercy, O Lord, and of your steadfast love,
for they have been from of old.
7 Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions;
according to your steadfast love remember me,
for your goodness’ sake, O Lord!

8 Good and upright is the Lord;
therefore he instructs sinners in the way.
9 He leads the humble in what is right,
and teaches the humble his way.
10 All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness,
for those who keep his covenant and his decrees.

11 For your name’s sake, O Lord,
pardon my guilt, for it is great.
12 Who are they that fear the Lord?
He will teach them the way that they should choose.

13 They will abide in prosperity,
and their children shall possess the land.
14 The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him,
and he makes his covenant known to them.
15 My eyes are ever towards the Lord,
for he will pluck my feet out of the net.

16 Turn to me and be gracious to me,
for I am lonely and afflicted.
17 Relieve the troubles of my heart,
and bring me* out of my distress.
18 Consider my affliction and my trouble,
and forgive all my sins.

19 Consider how many are my foes,
and with what violent hatred they hate me.
20 O guard my life, and deliver me;
do not let me be put to shame, for I take refuge in you.
21 May integrity and uprightness preserve me,
for I wait for you.

22 Redeem Israel, O God,
out of all its troubles.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

There has been a lot of news lately about "Self-Identification". While Fantasy and Playacting are among the "Arts", one has to know where Reality ends and Fantasy begins. A perfect example would be This Sketch from Saturday Night Live. William Shatner stuns his fans at a Star Trek Convention by telling them to "Get a Life!"

I was a huge Star Trek Fan as a young teen, especially since Leonard Nimoy was from our own neighborhood. Even as a wildly enthusiastic fan, however, I never crossed the line into thinking I was ACTUALLY Yeoman Rand, Lt. Uhura, or even Mr. Spock. Nope, I was just a Female American Teenager who liked Sci-Fi.

About two years ago, I was walking Penny around the park and saw a neighbor dressed in a simply gorgeous Medieval costume. I asked her if she was going to a party.

"I'm going to a COS-PLAY Convention, and I am The Fairie Queen!" she replied. It was then that I noticed that she had magical symbols tattooed indelibly on her skin. So, perhaps it wasn't just a costume. However, if she is, indeed, The Fairie Queen, why on earth would she be living in a run-down trailer? Why not do some Bippity Boppity Boo and get the roof fixed? (OK that was snarky. My apologies! I have to stop that!)

Recent News Stories have shown us that, in Today's World, one is expected to buy into the fantasies of others. A man decides that he self-identifies as a woman, a woman decides that she self-identifies as a man. Controversies rage when a person self-identifies as a person of a different race or ethnic group, and then takes advantage of programs that have been set aside for that group. People self-identify as animals, space aliens, mythical creatures, trees, wizards, gods, and goddesses. In a free society, they are all within their rights to self-identify as whatever they want, as long as it doesn't hurt someone else. In fact, as an Artist, I am often struck by the creativity and artistic merit of the "Performance Art" of some of these fantasies.

But, at some point, a line has to be drawn. "Whatever Floats Your Boat" is fine, but don't drill holes in mine. I love your "Fairie Queen" costume, but don't expect me to believe that you actually have magic powers. And, if you can share your beliefs with me, I should be afforded the same courtesy. I don't expect it though. When I launch into my Testimony as a Christian, The conversation gets heated.

Today's Scripture Reading has to do with God's People who will be gathered together, like sheep in a safe pasture. It is a metaphor. Believers do not think that they are mindless, four-legged ruminants. When we say "We are the sheep of his Pasture," we are saying that we "self-identify" as the People of God. Not only is is "self-identification", but it is due to the election of God Himself. He is the One Who calls us by name, who gathers us together, Who binds our wounds, and heals our broken hearts. We are His "sheep" ONLY because HE is Our Shepherd. We are who we are because He Is Who He Is.

And I would have it that way more than all the Fantasy in the Universe!

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Wonderful essay today! You make it so easy to agree with an enthusiastic "Amen!"

And, so as not to steal your (presumably) upcoming thunder, I refuse to mention here the passage about "sheep" and "pasture" in my favorite psalm, the one between 99 and 101.
