Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds
Nehemiah 1:7-8
8 “Remember the instruction you gave your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations, 9 but if you return to me and obey my commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for my Name.’
New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)
Nehemiah's prophecy came true, in his century and in ours.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
A few years ago, an essay circulated on the Internet regarding Sheep and Sheepdogs. There have been several variations on this theme. Here is one of them.
Yesterday, in my search for images about Border Collies and Sheep, I came across some really good ones! And so, whether it's on a website dedicated to Police, the Military, or Raising Sheep in New Zealand, we are continuing in the 21st Century to identify with the Biblical imagery of Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds.
While Torey-The-Dog never herded anything but schoolchildren, the instinct to protect and gather them was deeply embedded in her DNA. And yet, she was totally bonded to me, because I was the "Alpha".
Most of us are familiar with the concept of "The Alpha" when referring to a pack of canines, wild or domesticated. The Alpha is the boss of the pack. The Alpha has first choice, whether it has to do with mating, eating, or traveling. There is competition for this position, but it is generally accepted by the rest of the pack.
Did you know that, in the hierarchy, there is also an "Omega"? Omega is the last letter in the Greek Alphabet, and the Omega Dog (or Wolf) is nearly as important as the Alpha. He is the scapegoat, or the one who gets blamed for everything. He humbles himself to "keep the peace", and takes punishment for things that aren't his fault. If a group doesn't have an Omega, they will designate one, because he is essential to the functioning of the pack.
"Well, I certainly wouldn't put up with THAT!" you may say. Well of course you wouldn't. We are not canines, after all. And yet, in feral situations, gangs, and even a functioning business office, you may very well see this dynamic in action. It's harsh, but it's true.
Now, if the terms, "Alpha" and "Omega" sound familiar, they should! Jesus calls Himself "The Alpha and The Omega" in both the first and last chapters of The Book of Revelation. (Interesting that it is the FIRST and LAST Chapters.)
He says:
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.” (Rev 1:8 NIV)
On Earth, you can be either an Alpha, or an Omega, but you can't be both. And yet, Jesus says this paradox more than once! How can it be?
Paul hints at this in his letter to the Philippians:
"6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross."
Being Almighty God is the Ultimate "Alpha", and Jesus was (and is!) exactly that. And yet, He took on the sins of the entire WORLD, and humbled Himself to an excruciating, humiliating, torturous Death on the Cross, the Ultimate "Omega".
He declares: I AM the Alpha and the Omega,
The Beginning and The End,
The First and The Last,
The Shepherd and the Lamb,
The King of Kings and The Suffering Servant,
The High Priest and the Propitiation for Our Sins.
I think that He embedded these principles into His Creation to teach us these very things.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

Psalm 135
1 Praise the Lord!
Praise the name of the Lord;
give praise, O servants of the Lord,
2 you that stand in the house of the Lord,
in the courts of the house of our God.
3 Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good;
sing to his name, for he is gracious.
4 For the Lord has chosen Jacob for himself,
Israel as his own possession.
5 For I know that the Lord is great;
our Lord is above all gods.
6 Whatever the Lord pleases he does,
in heaven and on earth,
in the seas and all deeps.
7 He it is who makes the clouds rise at the end of the earth;
he makes lightnings for the rain
and brings out the wind from his storehouses.
8 He it was who struck down the firstborn of Egypt,
both human beings and animals;
9 he sent signs and wonders
into your midst, O Egypt,
against Pharaoh and all his servants.
10 He struck down many nations
and killed mighty kings—
11 Sihon, king of the Amorites,
and Og, king of Bashan,
and all the kingdoms of Canaan—
12 and gave their land as a heritage,
a heritage to his people Israel.
13 Your name, O Lord, endures for ever,
your renown, O Lord, throughout all ages.
14 For the Lord will vindicate his people,
and have compassion on his servants.
15 The idols of the nations are silver and gold,
the work of human hands.
16 They have mouths, but they do not speak;
they have eyes, but they do not see;
17 they have ears, but they do not hear,
and there is no breath in their mouths.
18 Those who make them
and all who trust them
shall become like them.
19 O house of Israel, bless the Lord!
O house of Aaron, bless the Lord!
20 O house of Levi, bless the Lord!
You that fear the Lord, bless the Lord!
21 Blessed be the Lord from Zion,
he who resides in Jerusalem.
Praise the Lord!

Good "killology" article. And your profound understanding of the issue is inspired. Coupled with your comment today on my thread, you are on quite a roll!
Therefore, if you also require my acquiescence in prayer, how else can I reply except by an eager "Amen!"

Fascinating discussion of Alpha and Omega in a pack. Indeed. I’ve seen it in the work place. And remarkable picture of Christ.
