Oh LORD,
Our God,
How Excellent Is Your Name Over All The Earth!
How Mighty,
How Majestic,
and How Wonderful!
You Alone Are Worthy of Praise and Worship,
For You Alone Are the Most High,
Ancient of Days,
Our Rock and Our Redeemer,

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Most of you know about my friend Lil the Missionary, but I don't think I had ever shared the story about Odie, her dog. Odie was a three-year-old Maltese and very feisty and brave. Lil got the call to go overseas to bring Bibles into one of the most repressive Iron-Curtain countries in Eastern Europe, and she needed to find a home for Odie. Of Course, I would be delighted to adopt Odie, and made arrangements with Lil to have him brought from Virginia to Boston.

Odie and I bonded instantly and we became inseparable. He even loved to ride the Harley with me, and had his own special box and leather jacket. (I still have the jacket!) Odie lived to be 17 and died in my arms, just like Lil would, some 25 years later.

Maltese are different than other dogs, as they don't shed their coats, Their fur is more like human hair, and just grows. It is so luxurious, that when cared-for properly, presents an gorgeous elegant display that wins Blue Ribbons every year. Odie, however, was not into such frou-frou. His personality demanded a fairly short haircut, which I provided with a pair of scissors. It was still a bit long, and with riding, digging, chasing squirrels, and rolling in dirt, he got very matted and dirty. It was time for a professional groomer.

Odie was such a mess that the groomer went crazy on him and shaved him down to the skin. Odie looked like a pink, skinny, quivering, RAT. It was awful, and Odie knew it. He was so ashamed and embarrassed that he hid until his hair started coming back in. His leather jacket swam on him, and wouldn't even stay on. He refused to be seen in public!

My Prayer, for years, has been:

"Let all that's been concealed,
Be Revealed."

It is based upon something Jesus said in the tenth chapter of the Gospel of Matthew.

When all the fluff is pealed away, the truth is often very unappealing. It can be so ugly that it causes shame and embarrassment. Sometimes, peeling off a layer can reveal incredibly awful corruption and rot, and is painful to see. But it has to be done. May God give us strength and faith to get through such revelations.
