Revelation 22

Eden Restored

22 Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. 3 No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. 4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5 There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.

6 The angel said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord, the God who inspires the prophets, sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place.”

7 “Look, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy written in this scroll.”

8 I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing them to me. 9 But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your fellow prophets and with all who keep the words of this scroll. Worship God!”

10 Then he told me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this scroll, because the time is near. 11 Let the one who does wrong continue to do wrong; let the vile person continue to be vile; let the one who does right continue to do right; and let the holy person continue to be holy.”

Epilogue: Invitation and Warning

12 “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. 15 Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you[a] this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”

17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. 19 And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.

20 He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”

Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.

Our Father In Heaven,
Magnified and Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!
You Alone Are Worthy To Be Praised And Worshiped,
For Your Alone Are Holy,
Righteous,
and Infinitely Just!
You Are Eternally Faithful,
and there is no Shadow of Turning with You.
Light and Darkness Can Not Occupy The Same Space,
and There is No Darkness With You.
Good and Evil Can Not Dwell Together,
And There is No Evil With You.
Yet You Always Judge Rightly,
With Grace and Truth,
Justice and Mercy,
Wisdom and Kindness,

LORD, You desire Truth in Our Inward Parts.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Some of you may have heard this story before, but today's reading is about a Vision of Heaven, which is also in my story. Just yesterday, in church, a friend noticed that I was wearing hearing aids, and expressed joy that I was finally able to obtain such expensive items.

"These aren't actually mine, " I said. "It's a LONG Story!"

Well, here's the story:

One of my dearest friends Lil was a missionary, first to Iron Curtain countries and then, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, to Islamic countries. She was so brave that she was a real hero to me "smuggling" Bibles into one of the Central Asian "Stans" under the flowing robe that Afghans call a "Burka". Upon retirement from the Missionary Field, she became a psychiatric nurse at the VA Hospital, and ministered to our troops with PTSD. She was a SAINT!

Anyway, Lil and I saved and planned for two years to go to Hawaii together and the day had finally come. We flew in from two different states, and met up in Kona, on the Big Island.

On our first night on the island, we sat out on the lanai and talked. Lil shared with me her vision of heaven:

"I picture heaven as beautiful hills rolling down to the sea. The hills are covered in golden grasses, like wheat, waving in the wind like hands praising God."

I thought that was a unique vision of heaven, but who was I to refute it? It was hers, so, OK.

The next day, we decided to take a helicopter ride over Kilauea, which was in eruption, and was going to be spectacular. Lil cleaned up her brand new $5000.00 hearing aids and put them in MY ears.

"See if these work for you." she said.

The change wasn't dramatic, because they weren't designed for my ears, but I wore them anyway.

We decided to take the longer route to Hilo (about 120 miles) because there were more sights to see. A few miles north of Waikoloa, I pointed out the infamous Saddle Road.

"That's the Saddle Road," I said. "It goes between the two live volcanoes. It's considered a restricted area and the Car Rental Company forbids taking that road. Mike (RIP) always wanted to take it to Hilo, but I always vetoed it."

"Let's Take it!" said Lil. "In honor of Mike!"

And so we did.

At the airport, Lil once again used her fearless skills to get us the "Old Lady Discount" on the Open-Door-Helicopter Flight over the erupting Pu'u'O'o Vent. The two of us were firmly strapped into the rear seat in X-shaped harnesses.

We were in the air only about 15 minutes when Lil had a seizure in the helicopter. I tried to do CPR, but I couldn't get an airway and we were strapped in so tightly that neither of us could move. I pressed the com button and explained to the pilot that we had a "medical emergency". As I was saying these words, I felt a "Presence" like a breeze, leave Lil and pass by my face.

Back in Hilo, the EMTs were waiting for us. They rushed Lil to the ER, and then she was airlifted to Oahu. In the meantime, the Helicopter Company put me up for the night.

The next day was The Fourth of July, and all the roads on the Island were blocked with parades and festivities, so the only way back to Kona was the Saddle Road. This time I would be alone traveling it.

After over 50 miles of desolate moonscape with no stops, I rounded the corner and looked down towards the Kohala Coast. The rolling were covered in golden grasses, like wheat, waving in the wind, like hands praising God.

Lil was telling me she had "Made It".

And all this time, her hearing aids were in my ears.

I just sent my story to my friend in Oahu, and she knows the people who own the Helicopter Company personally. She just told me that “they are a wonderful Christian Family”.

There were several companies to choose from, but Lil and I went to that one. Who Knew? :-)
