Revelation 14

The Lamb and the 144,000

14 Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads. 2 And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps. 3 And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. 4 These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they remained virgins. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among mankind and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb. 5 No lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

My sister and I were playing a little game the other night. We were trying to remember and name all the Star Trek episodes where Captain Kirk outsmarted a computer. Of course "Landreau" came up first, then, M5, Nomad, VEJER, MUDD's Female Robots, and a few others. Kirk always used the same tactic. He presented a conundrum to the computer that was so paradoxical that the computer (or entity within it) could not process it and ended in a feedback loop that escalated until the computer destroyed itself. It worked every time!

The Scriptures are full of these paradoxes, which although would probably completely short-circuit Landreau, are a delight to the Believer:

The High Priest is the Sacrificial Victim

The King of Kings is The Suffering Servant

The Shepherd is The Lamb

The Lamb is the Lion of Judah

The Righteous Judge is the One Who Took The Sins of the World Upon Himself

The Fully God is Fully Man.

There are many more of these contrasts in Scripture, and Faith is necessary to accept them. If we depend on pure "Logic" we will get very frustrated!

There are some sects that have gotten bogged down in one or more of these paradoxes, and in trying to unravel them without faith, have come up with some strange stuff.

Contrary to the tenets of some denominations, the 144,000 are not members of a specific church, nor are they the only ones who will go to heaven. The Bible doesn't SAY that. What the Bible DOES say is that these men are Jews, right down to the specific Tribe. (The Tribe of Dan is left out, and since "Dan" means "Judge", it may be because these men will escape Judgement, but that is just my conjecture. As I promised long ago, I always will label my thoughts if they are my own musings!). Anyway, these men are celibate virgins, and sing a song of praise to The Lamb. Once again we see the lamb portrayed as The King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Who shall reign forever and ever.
