Danish ‘Muslim’ Bill Backfires on Churches

Law will compel all sermons to be translated into Danish and approved

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (ChurchMilitant.com) - Churches in Denmark are warning that a proposed law intended to curb extremist Muslim preaching could severely restrict freedom of religion and financially cripple churches.

The "Law on Sermons in Languages Other Than Danish," to be debated in the Danish Parliament in February, would require all sermons preached in foreign languages to be translated into Danish and submitted to the State for approval.

Denmark's socialist government argues that the law, targeted at imams preaching in Arabic, is meant "to create greater openness about the preaching of religious preachers in Denmark when they preach in languages other than Danish."

Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich, president of the Catholic Church in the European Union (COMECE), said the bishops understood that the law was intended "to prevent radicalization and counter incitement to hatred and terrorism.

However, "Any negative or discriminatory impact should be avoided with regard to churches and religious communities that are averse and alien to such actions, acting in a spirit of peace and integration," the cardinal stressed.

In comments to Church Militant, Islam historian Robert Spencer explained how "Secular Turkey did this [in mosques] for decades for the same reason, until President Erdogan began his campaign of re-Islamization."

Spencer agreed that "the intent behind this measure is clear: to monitor sermons in mosques and prevent jihad preaching."

"However, to include all religious bodies when no others are preaching religion-based violence against unbelievers manifests the Danish Parliament's cowardice and refusal to face the real source of the problem. Unless and until it does so, that problem will persist," the distinguished scholar warned.

Deporting the Muslims is their best bet.

Denmark is cold. Libya is much more temperate.

Islam means submission.

They mean for everyone to submit.

The prime directive of Islam is war against the infidel.

Denmark should be for Danes and fit Danish Culture.

I think Russia faced a similar criticism 10-15 years ago. Certain religious laws were said to be discriminating against groups like Scientologists, as well as Muslims. Meh.

Yep, you can bet when liberals wedge their cowardly stinking foot in the door, life is more miserable for everyone. Never mind Christians have caused NO PROBLEMS in Denmark for hundreds of years (ok, just a WAG on my part, but probably true). I don't know who's more despicable, mudslims or liberals.

What good does that do? They'd just submit a nice little sermon about the religion of peace and then say anything they damn well please in a language you can't understand.

“Certain religious laws were said to be discriminating against groups like Scientologists, as well as Muslims.”

Discrimination is highly underrated, especially when it comes to culture and religion.

How can a society hang together when you have groups with diametrically opposite belief systemsf?

The extent to which a minority culture can be tolerated is a function of having mostly similar values as the dominant culture. Thus in the US different Christian sects can mostly peacefully coexist because they share similar values. Even Buddhists can coexist because of the similarity in values.

Islam on the other hand has declared war against our values.

Restrict freedom of religion? Financially cripple churches? Most, if not all, religious services already offered in the country are probably already in Danish, so it sounds like they don't even fall under this law! You have the Traditional Latin Mass, but what other religion is consistently given in other languages? And what is the financial burden here? -Not that I'm saying this is right-, but if a church can't afford to pay some random parishioner to translate the sermon (hell, even a professional isn't that expensive), I highly doubt that church would have stayed solvent very much longer anyway. Unless this article is skipping some major details, it doesn't sound like this law is going to hurt established religions much, if at all.

This is definitely aimed solely at the Muslim invaders, and as another poster (or comment in the article, I forget which) mentioned, their legislative reps need to grow some balls and actually explicitly aim this kind of stuff at them, instead of hiding under the 'equal treatment' bullshit.
