Christians Debate The Prophetic Future Of America - Prosperity vs End Times

Are you surprised by America's sudden meltdown? Over the past 12 months, we have witnessed the greatest public health crisis in 100 years, the lockdowns that were instituted to control the pandemic resulted in the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression of the 1930s, widespread civil unrest erupted in the aftermath of George Floyd's death and has not stopped since, and now we are witnessing the greatest political turmoil since the Civil War.

Despite all of this chaos, many Americans remain absolutely convinced that the greatest days of the United States are still ahead of us. To them, the current problems we are facing are just minor bumps in the road that will soon be resolved as we continue to steamroll toward an incredibly glorious future.

Personally, I don't see how this makes any sense at all, but there are millions upon millions of people out there that actually believe this...

Real scholars like Arnold Fructenbaum, John Wolvaard, etc. Who are your scholars?

Beale, Osborn, Sproul, all the usual dispensationalists, Uriah Smith, Owens, Gentry the Preterist, and the ones you mentioned, to name a few. All are excellent scholars and they are all over the board on eschatology and the meaning of Babylon. I don’t completely agree with any of them but they can all make a case. I probably most agree with the idealist/historicist approach of Beal.

I’ve been hearing e-scat-ology claims since 1970.

When examining that in the ‘80’s,I found that ‘dispensationalism’ was only a product of the 1920’s. Too young to have creedence. I even bought that coffee table book, with all the graphics inside. Imagination to rival Robert E. Howard, or J.R.R. Tolkien.

I,then, heard of the ‘Dominionism’ talk.
As James Bond said of Dr. No, ‘world domination’. I can imagine how all those Thai orthodox Buddhists would react to that!

From 1986 to 1994, I was a parishioner of Smithtown Gospel Tabernacle, in Smithtown, Long Island, NY. In 1994, I moved to Oregon.

In all honesty, I never believed any of the Dominionist hoo-hah. It was not stated in the Bible that Christians would take over the world. Ever.

What I am seeing, however, is not that America’s best days are ahead of them, but likely it’s worst...worse than the Civil War. For a while now, good people have been preaching and teaching against the stuff that is rampant in today’s society and the things we have allowed to continue. You know the list: abortion, acceptance of homosexual perversion (and other perversions), the acceptance (by some) of lies and corruption in government, and laziness in general. (By that, I mean people not wanting to change, so they find a way to get by...path of least resistance and all that.)

Preachers have been sending out the message that G-d wants them to repent and change their lives and the lives of others by following His Word. They’ve been doing it for years, apparently to very little avail.

So, what I see now is that G-d was giving us one last chance to truly “Make America Great Again” by following His statutes and laws and turn things around. To some degree, we did...but not the way that He wanted. All the things I mentioned above were and are still going full-force. It’s not that the President wasn’t a good man...he most certainly was. Had a few rough edges, but there isn’t anyone on the planet, no matter how good, who doesn’t. What Christians should have done with the favorable conditions his administration provided, was to take the Gospel out to this nation and do their best to bring this nation back to G-d. Instead, it was politics, policies, and economic upturn that was the focus. Not bad things, but the wrong focus.

To that end, G-d set up the situation we now find ourselves in. He allowed the forces of evil to build and scheme, even right in front of our faces, and only some of us recognized what was happening. (Biden getting 10 or 12 supporters at a rally for a presidential candidate? We all thought “No possible way”, right? Picking a vice-presidential candidate that no one wanted, and we thought “Like that’s gonna happen”.) And although some of us could see what was happening, the majority was blind-sided by tthe utter scope of the fraud and corruption that exploded in our face on Nov. 3rd and afterward in all the things that have led us to this day since.

We are, I am sad to say, in the beginnings of the judgement of G-d for this nation. People have been saying that Biden’s policies (and eventually Harris’) will cripple this nation. Brother and sister...you ain’t seen nothing yet. G-d will use the situations that are coming toward us to shake us to oiur core so that we can turn to Him, repent of the things we shouldn’t be allowing in our own lives, and then go out and try and bring more into the Kingdom.

We are about to see the biggest persecution against Christianity that this nation has truly never seen since its’ inception. While it’s going to be rough, it will mean the growth of the Church, even if it’s forced underground (which I believe is inevitable). I have no doubt we’re going to see public shaming of Christians, imprisonment, and even deaths. It has been proven time and again that the Church always grows during times of persecution.

Even in the destruction of America, G-d will be triumphant. That is the thing we’re all going to need to remember going forward.

(And one more thing: I see many who are saying that they believe G-d is going to pull out a miracle in the next 3 days and allow Trump 4 more years. As utterly mind-blowingly awesome as that would be, I do not think it’s going to happen. I know that, if it doesn’t happen, there are going to be a lot of people out there who will be heartbroken, their faith shattered. Some may even want to end it all, thinking that G-d isn’t real and their faith is useless. All I can say is...don’t go that way. Get on your knees and look to Him, and ask Him what He wants from you. Wait on His reply...then do it. Even in the worst of circumstances, all is not lost. He is still on the throne. Count on it.)

Check out what that word Babylon.. Babel.. babble-on literally means. Hint ‘confusion’. On ‘mass confusion’. As in literal or spiritual sense.

In the book of revelation there is no mention of the USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil (or any Western hemisphere country), no mention of Ireland, the UK, Spain, France , Poland, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, India, China, Japan, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Vietnam etc. etc.

The Rapture is the third funniest piece of 19th century fiction - right after the Mormon creation, and the Seventh Day Adventists/Jehovah’s witnesses — incidentally all 3 arose of the same ethos.

Sure. Biblical Eschatology scholars view 3 coming phases after the collapse of Nationalism. All of these nations become cogs in the Antichrist Machine...

1. One World government after Westpfahlian Collapse.

2. Rearranging of one world government into 10 regions (Daniel 10, Rev 13)

3. Rise of the Antichrist to lead the 10 regions (Daniel 7, 8).

A lot of countries aren’t mentioned specifically that may be part of nation groupings that are mentioned.

We think China is mentioned because of the “kings of the East” mention in Revelation but it isn’t mentioned specifically. Could be most of Asia, Pakistan, AfGhanistan, ect.

France isn’t mentioned...(might be a good thing; Mark Twain would have thought so.)

Beastie boy may have a country that serves as his power base before attempting to rule the world out of Israel. The USA may be it!

cheers...

So when Paul said :”1Thess 5: 16-17 says “The Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the middle of the air”...
are you saying that Paul was incorrect and was speaking blasphemously? Did Paul make all that up based on the ethos you are deriding in your posting?

Or is your position one in which this occurs post tribulationally “at the end of the age”?

I don’t think you are actually anti Scripture so how does your position square with what the Apostle Paul says above?

It is pretty plain it means a carrying off of believers both the raising of the dead in Christ and then those who are alive and in him at the time of the “loud command”!

Is your main disagreement with Protestants over this issue simply about “when” this event is to occur?

1 Thess 5:16-17 is not what you quoted. 1 thess 5:16-17 is
“ 16 Rejoice always. 17 Pray without ceasing

You probably mean 1 thess 4

St. Paul wrote to the Thessalonian Christians because they were worried about those who died before Christ’s return. Many in the ancient world believed that a person simply ceased to exist upon death, as do many modern unbelievers. There seems to have been a rumor in Thessalonica that the dead Christians had lost out on any chance of a physical resurrection. St. Paul assures them that it was not so. In fact, “the dead in Christ will rise first” to meet Christ, and those still alive at the second coming will immediately follow them. But all will meet Christ at that time.

Rapturists make a point of the fact that we will “meet the Lord in the air”—the Lord who has come “in the clouds.” They infer from this that Christ will not actually touch down on terra firma and that we will go back to Heaven with Christ for the duration of a seven-year Great Tribulation. If so many people did not accept this explanation, I would dismiss it immediately as silly. The word St. Paul uses for meeting the Lord “in the air” is aer, the Greek word for atmosphere. This same word is used to describe Satan as “the prince of the power of the air” (Eph. 2:2). Yet no one would claim that, because of this word, Satan has no influence over people who keep their feet firmly planted on earth. A consistent rapturist reading of this word here would mean that only astronauts, balloonists, pilots, and airplane passengers are influenced by Satan’s power. No, when Christ returns to the earth’s atmosphere, He has returned to earth. Read the verses again! We will meet Christ, but it will be at His second coming to earth. Any other use of the language stretches credibility.

Furthermore you are conflating the Revelation of john with the writings of Paul.

Furthermore, different non groups outside orthodoxy have different concepts of this. Not all who call themselves “protestant” are rapturists.

Anglicans, lutherans, adventists, jehovah’s witnesses etc all have differing beliefs on this.

Daniel’s visions end with the victory of Christ. Daniel’s vision do not extend beyond the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem in 70 ad

While I acknowledge that there are truth’s in the Preterist view of history, I strongly disagree with the Preterist view of prophesy. There are a number of prophesies that have yet to occur, and must occur preceding the return of Jesus.

Also note that the original poster of this article is an Evangelical. He just sees the pre tribulation rapture as the 19th century invention that it is.
