Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds
.
Jeremiah 50
A Message About Babylon
50 This is the word the Lord spoke through Jeremiah the prophet concerning Babylon and the land of the Babylonians[a]:
2 “Announce and proclaim among the nations,
lift up a banner and proclaim it;
keep nothing back, but say,
‘Babylon will be captured;
Bel will be put to shame,
Marduk filled with terror.
Her images will be put to shame
and her idols filled with terror.’
3 A nation from the north will attack her
and lay waste her land.
No one will live in it;
both people and animals will flee away.
4 “In those days, at that time,”
declares the Lord,
“the people of Israel and the people of Judah together
will go in tears to seek the Lord their God.
5 They will ask the way to Zion
and turn their faces toward it.
They will come and bind themselves to the Lord
in an everlasting covenant
that will not be forgotten.
6 “My people have been lost sheep;
their shepherds have led them astray
and caused them to roam on the mountains.
They wandered over mountain and hill
and forgot their own resting place.
7 Whoever found them devoured them;
their enemies said, ‘We are not guilty,
for they sinned against the Lord, their verdant pasture,
the Lord, the hope of their ancestors.’
New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)
Jeremiah uses the imagery of sheep to describe both the Captivity and the Restoration.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, Our God,
How Excellent Is Your Name Over All The Earth!
How Mighty,
How Majestic,
and How Wonderful!
You Alone Are Worthy of Praise and Worship,
For You Alone Are the Most High,
Ancient of Days,
Our Rock and Our Redeemer,
Our Refuge and Our Strength!
You Are the Creator of All Things,
And Yet, Even In Your Omnipotence,
You Give us the Privilege of Calling Out To You,
"Abba, Father!"
LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.
We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Yesterday, I spent a good part of the afternoon listening to this performance of Handel's Messiah.. It was quite different than any other rendition that I was used to, and so it was like listening to a brand new piece of music, even though I already knew all the notes and lyrics.
In today's Passage of Scripture, Jeremiah speaks of God's People as "sheep who have gone astray". This is the same imagery used by Isaiah in his Prophetic 53rd Chapter, which is so effectively interpreted in Handel's "Messiah".
We know that David was a Shepherd, but not Jeremiah or Isaiah, (or even Handel!), and yet they all use the same descriptions to describe God's People.
And so, even though separated by years and miles, the writers of Scripture show a unity of Spirit and continuity of thought that spans Eternity.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)
God Bless America!

Psalm 113
1 Praise the Lord!
Praise, O servants of the Lord;
praise the name of the Lord.
2 Blessed be the name of the Lord
from this time on and for evermore.
3 From the rising of the sun to its setting
the name of the Lord is to be praised.
4 The Lord is high above all nations,
and his glory above the heavens.
5 Who is like the Lord our God,
who is seated on high,
6 who looks far down
on the heavens and the earth?
7 He raises the poor from the dust,
and lifts the needy from the ash heap,
8 to make them sit with princes,
with the princes of his people.
9 He gives the barren woman a home,
making her the joyous mother of children.
Praise the Lord!

I know! Wasn’t he terrific? He put the lie to the musical joke that Transplant Surgeons prefer conductors hearts for transplants because “they are seldom used”. (Inside joke to anyone who has even played in an orchestra LOL) Of course there were some “cranky” comments downthread that it was “too fast”. I listen to the Pennock Version mostly, so I was aware of the different tempi. But knowing the lyrics and the Scriptures, I saw that the minor changes were very appropriate to the text.
I kind of knew you would like this version! I found it when I followed your Mozart link yesterday! (Giving the credit where it is due!)
Happy New Year!

That's so funny! I have one of those in my CD player right next to my bed. It is a sure cure for insomnia.
Once, my sister and her husband Jim went to see one of those kind of renditions in person, and Jim fell asleep in his seat. Suddenly, the choir let out a HUGE, LOUD,
HALLELUJAH!
and he jumped out of his seat! LOL.

BTW, I now officially have a serious crush on that Tenor.
Not for his looks, necessarily, but for his artistry.

Sounds like a description of the United States of America. Just reading headlines show how far we have fallen.
