Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds
.
Isaiah 65
New Heavens and a New Earth
17 “See, I will create
new heavens and a new earth.
The former things will not be remembered,
nor will they come to mind.
18 But be glad and rejoice forever
in what I will create,
for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight
and its people a joy.
19 I will rejoice over Jerusalem
and take delight in my people;
the sound of weeping and of crying
will be heard in it no more.
20 “Never again will there be in it
an infant who lives but a few days,
or an old man who does not live out his years;
the one who dies at a hundred
will be thought a mere child;
the one who fails to reach[a] a hundred
will be considered accursed.
21 They will build houses and dwell in them;
they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
22 No longer will they build houses and others live in them,
or plant and others eat.
For as the days of a tree,
so will be the days of my people;
my chosen ones will long enjoy
the work of their hands.
23 They will not labor in vain,
nor will they bear children doomed to misfortune;
for they will be a people blessed by the Lord,
they and their descendants with them.
24 Before they call I will answer;
while they are still speaking I will hear.
25 The wolf and the lamb will feed together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox,
and dust will be the serpent’s food.
They will neither harm nor destroy
on all my holy mountain,”
says the Lord.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

I lived in Florida for 16 years, and lived a mere 3.5 hours by motorcycle from Orlando. My favorite place to visit, however, was not the "Magic Kingdom", but rather Sea World. I especially loved the Dolphins, but the daily Orca Show was always a delight. Seeing the beautiful creatures interact with the equally lovely young trainers was the highlight of the day.
But, in 2006, the community was shocked when a trainer named Dawn Brancheau was killed by an orca that she had worked with for years. It seemed so strange, as the orcas always seemed to really enjoy performing, splashing the crowds and always grinning their big toothy smiles. What went wrong?
For years, the most popular act in Las Vegas was Siegfried and Roy.
This elegant variation on the traditional Circus Lion-Tamer Act enthralled audiences, as the duo seemed to have a very special relationship with the big exotic cats. Stories swirled around about the cats (usually white lions and tigers) who were hand-raised by the duo and actually slept in the same beds with them.
The illusion was shattered when, in 2003, a white tiger named Montecore attacked "Roy" and severed his spine. The show abruptly closed, and rumors swirled about as various "experts" opined on "what went wrong".
Roy survived the attack, but passed away in May 2020 of (you guessed it) COVID. Montecore the Tiger lived to the age of 17, presumably in retirement.
According to Scripture, the Animal Kingdom has a distinct divide. There are Wild Animals and there are Tame Animals. Even animals that are not predators like lions can be considered wild. What makes the horse useful and the zebra untamable? Why are dogs so lovable and wolves so dangerous? No matter how gorgeous some wild animals are, they do not make good pets. So it is not their beauty or even their intelligence that makes the difference. It is not even their similarity to humans that counts. In fact, the creatures whose DNA most closely resembles humans is the Chimpanzee, and they make the absolute WORST pets. In fact, a chimp ripped the face off his female owner after years of being a cuddly "fur-baby".
This great divide goes back to The Fall, and is further exacerbated after the Flood. David found out the hard way during years as a shepherd, that wolves, bears, and big cats are NOT cuddly Disney Characters. It was in the wilderness as a shepherd that David learned how to be a Warrior.
This is all the more reason to marvel at Isaiah's Vision of The Messianic Kingdom, where the:
25 The wolf and the lamb will feed together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox,
and dust will be the serpent’s food.
They will neither harm nor destroy
on all my holy mountain,”
says the Lord.
This Vision of "The Peaceable Kingdom" echoes Isaiah's Vision in the earlier chapters of his Book, and now here it is again, at the end.

Psalm 44
To the leader. Of the Korahites. A Maskil.
1 We have heard with our ears, O God,
our ancestors have told us,
what deeds you performed in their days,
in the days of old:
2 you with your own hand drove out the nations,
but them you planted;
you afflicted the peoples,
but them you set free;
3 for not by their own sword did they win the land,
nor did their own arm give them victory;
but your right hand, and your arm,
and the light of your countenance,
for you delighted in them.
4 You are my King and my God;
you command* victories for Jacob.
5 Through you we push down our foes;
through your name we tread down our assailants.
6 For not in my bow do I trust,
nor can my sword save me.
7 But you have saved us from our foes,
and have put to confusion those who hate us.
8 In God we have boasted continually,
and we will give thanks to your name for ever.
Selah
9 Yet you have rejected us and abased us,
and have not gone out with our armies.
10 You made us turn back from the foe,
and our enemies have taken spoil for themselves.
11 You have made us like sheep for slaughter,
and have scattered us among the nations.
12 You have sold your people for a trifle,
demanding no high price for them.
13 You have made us the taunt of our neighbours,
the derision and scorn of those around us.
14 You have made us a byword among the nations,
a laughing-stock* among the peoples.
15 All day long my disgrace is before me,
and shame has covered my face
16 at the words of the taunters and revilers,
at the sight of the enemy and the avenger.
17 All this has come upon us,
yet we have not forgotten you,
or been false to your covenant.
18 Our heart has not turned back,
nor have our steps departed from your way,
19 yet you have broken us in the haunt of jackals,
and covered us with deep darkness.
20 If we had forgotten the name of our God,
or spread out our hands to a strange god,
21 would not God discover this?
For he knows the secrets of the heart.
22 Because of you we are being killed all day long,
and accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
23 Rouse yourself! Why do you sleep, O Lord?
Awake, do not cast us off for ever!
24 Why do you hide your face?
Why do you forget our affliction and oppression?
25 For we sink down to the dust;
our bodies cling to the ground.
26 Rise up, come to our help.
Redeem us for the sake of your steadfast love.

Even my kitty cat had her devil possessed moments—her wild side.
I was at the gift shop in The Mirage, buying a Siegfried and Roy White Tiger T-Shirt. The packed out show was performing above us. The clerk got word and told a friend we were traveling with—Roy got mauled! All of Las Vegas was shook up that evening. The sportscasters could not even read the high school football scores, they were so shaken up. And I couldn’t put on that T-shirt for 6 months. (I still have it.)
I digress—looking for the day when all will be made right.
Joining in prayer for the Peace of the Jerusalem.

Oh my...you were THERE when it happened? YIKES!
BTW...I never know what I am going to write each morning with these daily devotionals. I know what Scripture I will be using and I have the format saved to a template, but the stories just come out as I am typing them. (that is why I sometimes have typos)
Often, the story resonates with someone in particular, and I can only attribute that to the LORD.
Thank you for sharing that with us.

I did not see it happen, as we were in the gift shop below—and those shows are sold out well in advance so we couldn’t get in.
But when I wore the shirt shopping in Walmart in CA, an older gentleman commented on the beautiful animal. I told him the story and he said, “Thanks for sharing.” (It was CA.)

My Agent, back in Florida, was in NYC sitting Shivah for his step-father. He was standing on the sidewalk in front of the WTC on 9/11/01. He was riveted to the spot when the planes went in. When the towers began to collapse, he and thousands of other began to RUN.
He was one of the dust-covered runners we saw on TV that horrible day.
We used to talk about it a lot, as he was quite traumatized by the experience.

The day before (Monday, Sept 10th) he tossed a coin to determine if he would tour the WTC or Central Park. The coin came up “heads”, indicating the WTC, so they spent the entire day in the towers, eating at the Restaurant, going to the Art Galleries, shopping, etc. The following day, Jeff waited outside the WTC Marriott for his friend to arrive so they could tour central Park. And that’s when the first plane hit.
If the coin had come up “tails” on Monday, both Jeff and his friend would probably no longer be with us.
