Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds

Psalm 114

    Jacob from a people of foreign tongue,

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Since the last four of my dogs have been adult rescues, I had forgotten how lively a puppy can be. Recently, one of my students has gotten a puppy, and he is a dynamo. From the second I enter the house, he runs around in circles and barks with glee. I thought maybe he was afraid of me, but the mom assured me that he is like that 24 hours a day! (sigh)

The exuberant kinetic energy of baby animals astounds us. We can't remember being that wild ourselves, but we probably once drove our Moms crazy with our energy. This seems to be a universal pattern among God's creatures.

The Psalmist applies this truth to all of Nature, praising God. He has the trees and the rivers "clapping their hands" and the mountains "Skipping about like lambs" in response to God's Glory.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

The same puppy analogy holds true for new Christians, I think. No one can maintain that level of spontaneous exuberance "forever." I do hope, however, that it will be a feature of heaven, where maintaining it forever had become not only possible but the most natural thing in that world.
