Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds

Psalm 49

For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm.

1 Hear this, all you peoples;
    listen, all who live in this world,
2 both low and high,
    rich and poor alike:
3 My mouth will speak words of wisdom;
    the meditation of my heart will give you understanding.
4 I will turn my ear to a proverb;
    with the harp I will expound my riddle:

5 Why should I fear when evil days come,
    when wicked deceivers surround me—
6 those who trust in their wealth
    and boast of their great riches?
7 No one can redeem the life of another
    or give to God a ransom for them—
8 the ransom for a life is costly,
    no payment is ever enough—
9 so that they should live on forever
    and not see decay.
10 For all can see that the wise die,
    that the foolish and the senseless also perish,
    leaving their wealth to others.
11 Their tombs will remain their houses[b] forever,
    their dwellings for endless generations,
    though they had[c] named lands after themselves.

12 People, despite their wealth, do not endure;
    they are like the beasts that perish.

13 This is the fate of those who trust in themselves,
    and of their followers, who approve their sayings.[d]
14 They are like sheep and are destined to die;
    death will be their shepherd
    (but the upright will prevail over them in the morning).
Their forms will decay in the grave,
    far from their princely mansions.
15 But God will redeem me from the realm of the dead;
    he will surely take me to himself.
16 Do not be overawed when others grow rich,
    when the splendor of their houses increases;
17 for they will take nothing with them when they die,
    their splendor will not descend with them.
18 Though while they live they count themselves blessed—
    and people praise you when you prosper—
19 they will join those who have gone before them,
    who will never again see the light of life.

20 People who have wealth but lack understanding
    are like the beasts that perish.

We return to Psalms, and once again see the analogy sheep, but this time it is a negative one.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our God and Our King,
You are Our Righteousness
We Can Never Attain it Ourselves.
Just as Abraham believed You,
And it was counted unto him as Righteousness,
We ask You To give us that Measure of Faith,
And lead Us in Paths of Righteousness for Your Name's sake.
We pray for the those who are investigating the Election.
And We Pray that there will be insight and clarity.
So that America can once again Believe You.
And walk in the Path of Righteousness,
Which will lead us back to prosperity and peace.
Our enemies surround us, But You identify them and anoint us to stand tall.
We Know You are with us, and Will be forever, in this world and the next.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Is there anything in the world more delightful than the aroma of home-baked bread? Crusty on the outside, deliciously soft and warm on the inside, one doesn't even need the butter, but why not?When put on the table, that which took all day to prepare is gone in a few minutes. The majority of that time was spent allowing the yeast (or leavening) to grow and expand, giving the bread its delightful, soft, texture.

The Bible is full of symbols and analogies and they are as varied as they are colorful. Take for example this Parable of Jesus:

The Parable of the Leaven
32Although it is the smallest of all seeds, yet it grows into the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches.” 33He told them still another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and mixed into three measures of flour, until all of it was leavened. 34Jesus spoke all these things to the crowds in parables. He did not tell them anything without using a parable.…(Matthew 13 NIV)

In other places in Scripture, yeast is a symbol of corruption. It is, after all, a living organism that consumes its host and excretes gases. This is called "fermentation", and is a form of decomposition. (I know...who would have thought it, when eating that nice home-made bread?) And so, both in the Passover and in the Daily Offerings, the bread was to be made without yeast.

Because of this, some Bible Scholars assume that yeast is ALWAYS bad. In the Parable, these scholars see the baker as the devil and the yeast spreading throughout the Kingdom, like a bad apple spoiling the whole barrel.

But look at the previous Parable, about the Mustard Seed. This parable shows how one little seed grows into a huge tree that provides food and shelter for all of God's creatures. Great things come from tiny beginnings. The next parable about the woman baking bread is teaching the same principle. Both the Mustard Seed and the Leaven represent a Word in due season that brings about the Increase.

Up till this point, we have seen Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds only in a positive light. But, in this Psalm, we see a negative view of sheep. These are the ones who follow the evil one right into the pit. They don't have a thought of their own and are so easily led astray because they believe a lie. One after another they go to the slaughter, and not one of them questions where they are going.

In modern times, Social Media, Fake News, Propaganda, and Fear make it very easy for the Evil One to herd his sheep into the Abyss.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Psalm 31

To the leader. A Psalm of David.

1 In you, O Lord, I seek refuge;
do not let me ever be put to shame;
in your righteousness deliver me.
2 Incline your ear to me;
rescue me speedily.
Be a rock of refuge for me,
a strong fortress to save me.

3 You are indeed my rock and my fortress;
for your name’s sake lead me and guide me,
4 take me out of the net that is hidden for me,
for you are my refuge.
5 Into your hand I commit my spirit;
you have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.

6 You hate* those who pay regard to worthless idols,
but I trust in the Lord.
7 I will exult and rejoice in your steadfast love,
because you have seen my affliction;
you have taken heed of my adversities,
8 and have not delivered me into the hand of the enemy;
you have set my feet in a broad place.

9 Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am in distress;
my eye wastes away from grief,
my soul and body also.
10 For my life is spent with sorrow,
and my years with sighing;
my strength fails because of my misery,*
and my bones waste away.

11 I am the scorn of all my adversaries,
a horror* to my neighbours,
an object of dread to my acquaintances;
those who see me in the street flee from me.
12 I have passed out of mind like one who is dead;
I have become like a broken vessel.
13 For I hear the whispering of many—
terror all around!—
as they scheme together against me,
as they plot to take my life.

14 But I trust in you, O Lord;
I say, ‘You are my God.’
15 My times are in your hand;
deliver me from the hand of my enemies and persecutors.
16 Let your face shine upon your servant;
save me in your steadfast love.
17 Do not let me be put to shame, O Lord,
for I call on you;
let the wicked be put to shame;
let them go dumbfounded to Sheol.
18 Let the lying lips be stilled
that speak insolently against the righteous
with pride and contempt.

19 O how abundant is your goodness
that you have laid up for those who fear you,
and accomplished for those who take refuge in you,
in the sight of everyone!
20 In the shelter of your presence you hide them
from human plots;
you hold them safe under your shelter
from contentious tongues.

21 Blessed be the Lord,
for he has wondrously shown his steadfast love to me
when I was beset as a city under siege.
22 I had said in my alarm,
‘I am driven far* from your sight.’
But you heard my supplications
when I cried out to you for help.

23 Love the Lord, all you his saints.
The Lord preserves the faithful,
but abundantly repays the one who acts haughtily.
24 Be strong, and let your heart take courage,
all you who wait for the Lord.
