The work begins with history. History as subtext should be noted. Not only is this about the history of totalitarianism, notably Marxist and Maoist communism, but it is also about remembering national history, about dismissing those myths which detract from our history, dismissing the myths that today’s neo-totalitarians present as fact, and replacing myth with honest history, with strong relationships, with strong teach, with strong commitments to truth, and more.
This is not simply a Roman Catholic treatise, though that bell rings loudly, it is honest enough to cover Baptist and other protestant responses to the problem. Richard Wurmbrand, Alexander Solzhenitsyn, and many others, get deserved attention. It is written with the tone that those who suffered for Christ, no matter sect, suffered for Christ. That’s why they were attacked, which is the premise of Marxist communism. Those who suffered share a fellowship in this.
The plot line would be best stated as: It is beginning to happen here.

Rod Dreher is somewhat interesting but he has a loser mentality. He has consistently scoffed at people who are contesting the election. He acts like he just wishes the Commissars would come and put a bullet in him already.
If Biden becomes president and, worse, if Democrats also win those 2 GA senate seats, things are going to get “real” for Christians. Praying it doesn’t happen, but we may find out what it’s like to be Christian dissidents in a totalitarian regime.
We may be too late, but "push-back" we must.
More than a quibble: the author seems to imply that Dreher is a Roman Catholic. I didn’t read the article meticulously, so there may be some correction therein.
However, Dreher was a Catholic for only a short period, and went over to Orthodoxy over a decade ago, eliciting many sighs of relief amongst us Catholics, and many groans amongst the Orthodox.
You don’t want to wait till it gets totalitarian.
NEVER let Marxists in poiwer over you. Fight to the death before that happens. They are experts at using the machinery of the state...and they are ruthless and Godless so no measure will be off limits for them.
If Biden wins and the national cancer is spread too far to save, the healthy areas of the country should Rexit. Secede, Whatever you want to call it. I’m in PA....I will move and join the Patriots if it comes to it.
Just go. But NEVER EVER allow them to wield power over you. NEVER.
I am reading it now. Rod Dreher nails it and we are at a very scary place in America right now. Those who have lived under tyranny see it coming and are upset by what they are witnessing that is so familiar to their experience. In the light of what now appears to be widespread in your face election fraud which should have people demanding a thorough investigation, Dreher’s book could not be more well timed in describing where this failed society is right now. How many will read it? The academics who have indoctrinated our children probably will try to censor it. Can freedom be saved? It depends, I think, on whether God thinks such a hedonistic society is worth saving.

I have former coworkers that came over from Eastern Bloc countries in the 90’s.
The last one just went back to Russia. He took his large family back with him (kids, grandkids, and their spouses).
He said he has no desire to live through the bad times again.
