I would add that there is nothing you can do to save yourself. We are abject sinners that need a Savior. We must recognize the utter depravity of the human condition and that we need Jesus’ actions on the cross and the Resurrection to make the payment for our sins. Justice must be served and Jesus’ righteousness imputed to us is that payment.

Absolutely!

In John 6:28-29 He was asked point blank “works we must do” for God.

Our King’s response is genius and speaks volumes about works-based salvation theory. He had the opportunity to deliver an hour long lecture on what must be done, but He didn’t.

John 6:28-29
28 Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?”

29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”

The only cure for the sin disease is accepting Christ’s 100% free gift of salvation by his sacrifice on the cross for the propitiation of our sins.
Believe in Him as Savior, Believe that the Father raised Him from the dead on the 3rd Day, and call our to Jesus - all stated plainly in Romans 10:9-13.

You are correct that we can't - without Christ's one-time redemption on the cross - save ourselves.

That is the Pelasgian view or the Buddhist view (in a way) that one might say.

Paul's admonitions that

It is clear that we cannot save ourselves - we receive the freely given redemption from the Lord and we are justified by our acting in accordance with the Lord to receive our salvation upon death.
