Homosexual Abuse Scandal and Cover-Up During Benedict’s Pontificate Shakes Vatican
LifeSite News ^ | 9/5/20 | John-Henry Westen

September 5, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – In 2002, the Catholic Church was rocked by the widespread public revelation of sexual abuse perpetrated by Catholic clergy. While sexual abuse in all professions was nothing new, among clergy it brought a particular repugnance. But more than that, the new revelations highlighted the role of the bishops themselves in the crisis, as it made clear that they had allowed known sexually abusive priests to go without punishment and be transferred to other parishes or dioceses where they would sometimes even abuse again.

Sixth months after the revelations first surfaced in the Boston Globe, the US Bishops issued their “Dallas Charter.” While stipulating a zero-tolerance policy for sexually abusive priests, it came under criticism for failing to address the bishops’ own role in the scandal. The charter, which excluded responsibilities of bishops, was led by the then-Cardinal Theodore McCarrick and Archbishop Wilton Gregory, then-President of the USCCB.

Pope John Paul II met with the U.S. Cardinals to address the issue in the wake of the scandal breaking in 2002 and then in 2004 with US Bishops. Pope Benedict XVI too had many meetings addressing the abuse scandal.

Nevertheless, the Vatican itself came under scrutiny for its handling of abuse early on as well. The reputation of Pope St. John Paul II’s pontificate was marred significantly as the revelations of sexual abuse by Legion of Christ founder Fr. Marcial Maciel came to light. A source close to Pope John Paul II told LifeSite that John Paul II could not bring himself to believe the accusations since Maciel masqueraded as a conservative, and in John Paul’s native Poland the Communists often accused faithful priests of sexual abuse so as to damage their reputations.

A group of eight former Legionary seminarians first went........

Why don’t you tell us the point up front?

Is it likely that Benedict was really *weaker* on dealing with this problem than his predecessors or even Bergoglio?

It just seems quite unlikely.

Why haven’t Christine “Nazi” Niles and Michael Voris reported on this, Murph?

Not until the Catholic Church abandons the celibacy requirement for its clergy and disbands the Jesuit order, it will continue to be plauged with homosexuals and sodomites.

as if there is no abuse in with the Mormons or Baptists of Lutherans, etc...marriage would be nice for our faithful priests but it would also introduce HOMOSEXUAL married priests ....

I want no part of that....

If the rumors are true that Obama blackmailed Pope Benedict into retiring, it may have been largely over his efforts to deal with the homosexual abuse scandal.

Not until the Catholic Church abandons the celibacy requirement for its clergy and disbands the Jesuit order, it will continue to be plauged with homosexuals and sodomites.

There have been MANY discussions about priestly celibacy over the decades. Men don't even finish their priestly studies until they are AT LEAST thirty-eight years old so they have PLENTY of time to think about it.

One very interesting program featured Anglican WIVES of Anglican vicars...in England. They were all very sincere, well-spoken wives who had obviously given the issue much thought.

To the one each woman said the same basic thing. There are NOT enough hours in a day for their vicar to be
**a good shepherd to his flock,
**a good husband, and
**a good father.
An impossible task.

The Catholic Church has discussed celibacy over the last millennium as well and came to the same conclusion. Their basic model was Jesus, the celibate son of God.

As for the Jesuits, they were founded in 1543 so I doubt if they will disband anytime soon. They are considered the priestly elite, being, for the most part, exceptionally bright men.

I never knew why it MATTERED to anyone why priests should or should not be celibate. It's THEIR life and most do the best they can. So why the big to-do about it?

.

The Russians do it slightly differently. If a man is married and wants to become a priest, then he can do so.
However, if he becomes a priest first and THEN wants to marry he CANNOT do so. Once a single man becomes a priest marriage is out of the equation.
That's the way it was explained by Russian Orthodox friends of mine.

Homosexual married priests would be a bit absurd. Try to imagine a vibrant Catholic parish staffed by such creatures. Try to understand the problem. If you are a faithful Bishop and wanted to crack down on homosexuality in your diocese, the Bishop would be confronted with the logistical problem that 20-40% of his priests may be gay. Face reality. Heterosexual sex is part of normal human nature and behavior. Most normal man to entire a life where such behavior is not allowed, would be discouraged from taking vows. Yet as we have seen it is no barrier for homosexuals to enter the priesthood , clandestintly continue their perversions and cause the overt problems now being experienced. The solution is to eliminate the celibacy requirement, bring more normal heterosexuals into the clergy and disband the Jesuit order. Until then, this corrosive, horrible situation will persist.

Does the Catholic church recognize homosexual marriage?

(Sorry, I was baptized but never raised in the Church, and don’t consider myself ‘Catholic’; but I didn’t see any ‘caucus’ designation to this thread.)

It seems to me that at the point where the Church decided upon unmarried priests and priestly celibacy (it doesn’t seem to have been the rule in the very early Church) they inadvertently ‘invited’ homosexualists to become priests/monks/brothers - it constituted a haven for many.

I’m sure that some of them, along with many purely asexual men (those actually exist!) who didn’t fit anywhere else were genuinely attracted to the the life, and were good men and priests; but others surely saw it as carnal opportunity.

I’ve always thought the whole celibacy thing highly unnatural, and only suited to the very few. I’ve seen priests on television, in the news, that impressed me very much; but the priests with whom I’ve personally been acquainted haven’t exactly exhibited behavior that particularly recommended their character.

Pope Benedict was described by the Catholic Church, world media, even by the sometimes nasty, anti-Catholic German press (northern Germany) as a man

***with a TOWERING intellect and
***a backbone of tempered steel.

They didn't call him the PANZER POPE for nothing.

Should read

“ In 2002, the Catholic Church was rocked by the widespread public revelation of homosexual sexual abuse perpetrated by homosexual Catholic clergy.“

No one really points out that homosexual clergy are the problem.

The Catholic Church does NOT recognize homosexual marriage.
That reasoning goes WAY back to 1 Corinthians 7 by Paul the Apostle

According to the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer (1979), reflecting the traditional view, "Christian marriage is a solemn and public covenant between a man and a woman in the presence of God," "intended by God for their mutual joy; for the help and comfort given one another in prosperity and adversity..."

.

Hindus and Muslims don't recognize homosexual marriages either.
I don't have a CLUE about the Chinese.

I didn't see any "caucus" designation either.

Must disagree.

My view:

Post 13, please.

It was when the Church permitted homosexual clergy that the problem emerged. Like allowing homosexual Boy Scout Leaders, nothing good came of it.

And besides, being celibate does not turn some otherwise healthy man into a homosexual child sexual predator.

So you believe that chronic suppression of a normal, essential human characteristic is in the final analysis a good thing and that a priestly order that has devolved into a predominantly homosexual cabal is an inspiration to the Catholic faithful and advances and enhances the Catholic faith. Not to say that the Jesuits were not once great, but to quote the colloquial expression “Just look at them now”. Nothing more deluded than a Catholic parent that sends their kid to a Jesuit college “for a good Catholic education”. Sadly do not know even one practicing Catholic parent that would trust his or her child alone with a priest. This situation cannot continue.

"and disbands the Jesuit order"

Well, it certainly can't do that now that their 500 year mission to neutralize and reverse the reformation and the whole of Protestantism is rapidly coming to a smashingly successful end in unification with the mother church, right? (which reminds one of the old saying "power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely")

No one really points out that homosexual clergy are the problem.

The seminaries started giving prospective priests psychological tests to exclude homosexuals (and other perverts) back in the late '60's and early 70's.

Large urban centers give both men and women psychological tests to weed out the perverts, druggies, etc. I applied for a police department a long time ago and took that test.
The old guy doing the testing (lie detector) did ask MANY personal questions about guns, drugs, prostitution...and stuff like that. I can't remember ALL the questions now. It was a long time ago.

He ran into Ms. Goody Two-Shoes[ME!] and after only five minutes, turned off the machine and said YOU PASSED.

The Jesuits are the CIA of the Vatican. Any clandestine work goes to them. They’re extremely liberal and push liberation theology. Bergolo is the first and only Jesuit pope. He will and is destroying the Church.
