Once you are through with learning what went on in the USSR you can move on to what happened in China under Mao, what happened in Romania under Ceaușescu and other such delightful bed time stories.

Heck it even happened with just plain ole famine—Irish potato famine. Diaries described how awful it was.
Some of the people ate their babies and living with it drove them crazy.
