Seems to have a fake news feel to it.

Big deal, you only have to have registered, very common for most of us parishioners and donated as little as 10 cents.
that qualifies you as a registered parishioner or volunteer one Sunday to be an usher

The title misrepresents the letter. Clickbait sensationalism.

No, its true. Fr Z. Is a legitimate source - I believe hes incardinated in a diocese in Wisconsin - and fir many years has run a blog, WDTPRS (What Does the Prayer Really Say) where he started by translating Latin prayers but now covers general Church and liturgical issues. Look it up, its very good. Wdtprs.
He never reveals the diocese, but the priest who originally posted this has contacted a priest-canonist and a diocesan representative to discuss it. Of course, since Bergoglio is fine with having the German church essentially make the same demands, Im not sure theres gonna be much luck on this. But you can always hope and pray.

This seems reminiscent of the ancient sin of Simony.

Thanks, livius, I’ll check it out. But I agree with Fido969, it has a fake news feel without some details.

Well, as two of Fr. Z’s canonist correspondents point out, it’s thoroughly illegal now. So it’s not quite the situation that existed in Luther’s time.

This is probably good news. It means that the church is active and has many wanting to go to confession. I would think members should get first dibs. Most Saturday’s at my Catholic Church has few going to confession so its no big deal. Praise God that the interest of cleansing ones soul, is so much, in such demand at this church.
