Two Atheists Were Arguing. So Who Won The Argument?
JAG 5000

Posted on 06/25/2020 12:27:52 PM PDT by JAG 5000

I wrote the story below to poke fun at Atheists whose gods are Their Own Selves, Empiricism, Rationalism, Secularism, Logic, Science,

and what THEY claim is Rational Argumentation.

Its a dumb story but it does make a serious point.

So relax, read my short crazy story, and have a little harmless fun.

_____________

`

A Very Short Story About John And Bob and Tom.

by JAG 5000

There are two atheists that are having an argument over contradictory propositions.

John Atheist and Bob Atheist.

They are having a private debate in their own thread.

They are now on page 40 in the thread and they are not writing short posts, but long drawn out lengthy screeds.

They both claim victory and claim that they have established a high degree of Probability that their position is the correct one, and that their opponent's position is incorrect.

I have utterly defeated you says John. My arguments stand at a 90% Probability of certainty and your arguments stand only at a 40% Probability of certainty and here are my reasons to support what I say.

No, all that is incorrect replies Bob. My arguments stand at a 90% Probability of certainty and your arguments only at a 40% Probability of certainty and here are my reasons to support what I say.

_____________

The two atheists, John and Bob, decide to meet in Real World and continue their arguments.

They do this and they continue to argue back and forth for 10 days until they are near exhaustion.

Neither John or Bob will budge an inch.

How can we settle this, asks John.

Bob replies, let's go to the academic community and let them decide.

You mean we take a Majority Vote within the academic community?

Well no, replies John that would ruin our scholarly reputations and we'd be howled out of the room because everybody knows that taking a Majority Vote can not settle who has won an argument.

So my Ph.D's against your Ph.D's is not a very smart plan.

By the way Bob, again I have won and you have lost this argument.

No John, again you have lost and I have won this argument.

I know how we can settle this, said Bob, we can go and put our case before this organization:

The International World Authority That Has The Power To Decide Who Has, Or Has Not, Presented The Most Plausible Arguments.

That's a great idea replied John, but where are they located?

I don't know said Bob, lets ask Tom where we can find them.

So they asked Tom, but Tom said Listen fellas there is no such organization in the world as that, and you both should know this.

John and Bob both said well okay Tom, I guess you are right about that, but what in the world are we going to do now?

How can we settle who has won this argument with the highest degree of Plausibility?

I know how we can settle it, said John. We can let Tom settle it.

Okay said Bob, we will let Tom settle this.

Okay Tom, which one of us has won this argument?

Tom replied I declare that John has won this argument with the highest degree of Plausibility. I declare that John has won and that Bob has lost.

And so it came to pass that it was forever settled by Tom. John had won, and Bob had lost.

Ahh victory is sweet said John. I love it when I win and can know for certain that I have won.

The End.

LOL

_______

Yeah, I told you it was a dumb story, but it did make a few serious points if you stop and think about it seriously.

The takeaway point, in case you missed it, is that Atheists are not as smart as they think they are.

Regarding Epicurus:

Alvin Plantinga’s Free Will Defense of
God with regard to The Problem Of Evil
was successful.

Plantinga demonstrated that God could
not do the impossible such as create
square circles or make 2 + 2 = 7 and
could not create man with a Free Will
and at the same time prevent man from
using his Free Will to choose to do evil.

If you’re interested you can google
“Alvin Plantinga Free Will Defense Wikipedia”
and you will pull up the article.

Yah. Old Nietzsche was long ago a worm farm.

Here is a thought:

There will come a time for all atheists
who die from natural causes, when they
will be laying on their last battlefield
which will be their Death Bed, and at
some point their doctor will shake his
head and walk away.

They are up against two fierce
battlefield generals who have never
lost a battle. Their names are
General Time and General Death
and both know how to literally
beat humans to Death. At this
time cute little astute witticisms
from Volataire will NOT be of
comfort to Atheists who will
need a Friend and a Savior —
as we all will.

Geezus

You guys can’t possibly think after some 20 years I am an atheist.

I saw the story and Epicurus popped into my head.

If out of the vast machine our universe was created by math, which we are now discovering, who created that math which rules the universe?

Uhmmmm.....I’ll take God for a true Daily Double, Alex....

“I’ve noticed that forum atheists are very
fond of big pictures to make their “arguments” for them.”

I also notice they never stick around to back up their arguments, they just post & run.

.

One knifed the other because he saw the need and refuse any moral authority over his actions.

The other atheist just did not think of that way of arguing first.

Strange, is it not? that of the myriads who
Before us pass’d the door of Darkness through
Not one returns to tell us of the Road,
Which to discover we must travel too.

First you said this about the ending of my story:
“it just didn’t come as quickly as I had wanted it to.”___Teeman8r

JAG Replied that you could have stopped mid-way.

Now you say:
“I couldn’t stop reading “Midway” what
an excellent story of the naval battle... thrilling.___Teeman8r

Are not your two jewels of comment a contradiction?
Maybe not. I just don;t know.

Are you torn between two opposites?
Perhaps not.

Do you have a “love -hate” thingy going with my story?
Was it really that good?

You mentioned a “naval battle” — were there ships
afloat in my story. I was not aware of that. You
see things that others do not see. This is a gift.

Moreover , , ,
This is the Internet -— you can
unburden your soul. Just tell me
what is really on your mind.
Do we need violin music? As background?

May God bless you as you attempt to make sense of the World.

Sorry Vendome,
Atheists love Epicurus more than life itself. I just assumed , , , my apologies.

Induction can't answer all questions because even if every swan you've ever seen was white, and you've seen thousands of swans, you can never say for sure that all swans are white.

Deduction can't answer all questions because you have to start from some well-defined and generally agreed upon axioms or premises. Such axioms/premises have been searched out for thousands of years and have yet to be found. The closest things is "Cogito Ergo Sum" but that doesn't get you very far.

How should God prevent evil? By taking away our freedom?

By not creating such flawed creatures in the first place. How does something perfect create such imperfection? Hint: by being a work of fiction in the first place.

If a perfect God had really created Man, man would be perfect. But if imperfect Man created the story of God, they'd have to do a lot of explaining about how a perfect being created such a flawed world. In fact, they'd need a whole book...!

A group of scientists tell God they can make a better man than He did.

God says, “You’re on”.

One of the scientists tells another, “Go get a bucket of dirt.”
God says, “No, no ... Make your own dirt.”

People who use that Epicurus statement don't seem to understand that without a Creator/God there wouldn't BE any such thing as morality or the comprehension of something good vs. something being evil. There wouldn't be any right or wrong - it would all just be relative, what is good for my own selfish needs. The best way to win an argument with an atheist is to disavow their basic premise from the start.

An additional point if they want you to explain why God allows bad to happen to "good" people is to mention that He DID initially create a perfect world where everything was good and humans still screwed it up.

without true free will/freedom of choice, people’s actions wouldn’t really mean anything, because they then cannot help but do what they were programmed to do

basically then you’re just a machine running a program you can’t ever change or depart from.

if it’s impossible for you to do evil, or good, what’s the point of morality?
