[Catholic Caucus] As Masses open up, priests told to DROP Hosts onto hands, Communion on the tongue is banned

[Catholic Caucus] As Masses open up, priests told to DROP Hosts onto hands, Communion on the tongue is banned

As public Masses start up again, people are sending notes with indications from different dioceses about distribution of Holy Communion.

Under the excuse of being “realistic” and so forth, chanceries are writing for their bishops – I prefer to believe that the bishops themselves are not so awful – that Communion in the hand is obligatory and that people do not have a right to receive on the tongue.

Sed contraRedemptionis Sacramentum says “Quamvis omnis fidelis ius semper habeat pro libitu suo sacram Communionem ore accipendi,…”

[92.] Although each of the faithful always has the right to receive Holy Communion on the tongue, at his choice, if any communicant should wish to receive the Sacrament in the hand, in areas where the Bishops’ Conference with the recognitio of the Apostolic See has given permission, the sacred host is to be administered to him or her. However, special care should be taken to ensure that the host is consumed by the communicant in the presence of the minister, so that no one goes away carrying the Eucharistic species in his hand. If there is a risk of profanation, then Holy Communion should not be given in the hand to the faithful.

NB: “Always” and “right”.

Moreover, if Communion in the hand isn’t bad enough… and it is an abomination… now priests are being told that they are to drop the Host onto people’s hands.

They are to DROP the Host.

DROP. THE. HOST.

One of the sad and ironic advantages to this period of closure of Masses is that there have been millions fewer sacrilegious Communions received each Sunday by un-confessed and tepid or rebellious Catholics.   Millions of “Body” blows that the Church didn’t have to absorb.  Now priests are being told to drop Hosts onto palms.

Recently, Robert Card. Sarah, Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments, answered a questions about reception of Communion.  HERE

There is already a rule in the Church and this must be respected: the faithful are free to receive Communion in the mouth or hand. […]  The devil strongly attacks the Eucharist because it is the heart of the life of the Church. But I believe, as I have already written in my books, that the heart of the problem is the crisis of faith in the priesthood. If priests are aware of what the Mass is and what the Eucharist is, certain ways of celebrating or certain hypotheses about Communion would not even come to mind. Jesus cannot be treated like this.

Certain things would not even enter into their minds.

P.S.: Montini was the same pope who gave an indult to the offenders administering Communion in the Paw, which quickly became the norm in the universal Church.

It’s a question - did the gates of hell prevail against the Church?

Christ promised. Was he wrong or are you diverting?

He is being sarcastic, but in the 70’s there were priests doing the “bowl” thing. I’ve seen pictures of it. Wish I could unsee it.

You might want to think about using your knowledge, talents and experience to engage instead of attacking.
...............................................
So give us an idea/example of what you mean by suggesting that ebb tide should “engage” in regard to the practice of administering communion in the paw, I mean in the hand. I can’t speak for ebb tide, but I am categorically opposed to it for the reasons I’ve explained elsewhere on this thread. And all the explanations and rationale for introducing the practice is never going to change my thinking. Therefore engaging others about it would only serve as an opportunity to explain why it’s a practice I will never believe to be acceptable.

Do you accept that Francis has now promulgated Holy Communion for the divorced and remarried, without benefit of annulment, to be "Authentic Magisterium"?

Just a simple "yes" or "no". No more diversions, please.

Not entirely. Vestiges of the True Church remain even today.

Accusing fellow Catholics of being monsters for participating in a licit activity that you personally choose not to like or accept is arrogant at best, scandalous at worst.

I think you put too much stock in the word "licit". I have just given you evidence that Holy Communion for the divorced and remarried is now licit in some circumstances per the Authentic Catholic Magisterium.

Just because Francis has made it licit, doesn't mean it's not immoral nor a sacrilege that puts one's soul in a state mortal of sin.

Voluntary abortion in all 50 U.S. states is also licit. Catholic politicians like Pelosi and Biden who vote for this licit practice of infanticide are still given Holy Communion by some Catholic bishops.

I have long referred to Extraordinary Eucharistic Ministers as Extraordinary Eucharistic Monsters as a play on words. Those are my feelings in general about the abominable practice and not meant be a personal attack on any single individual.

And, by the way, why are they called "extraordinary" when they're crawling up to Novus Ordo Mass altars like swarms of ants? Don't we have enough permanent deacons to handle the "extraordinary" problem?

Here in Texas and Louisiana, we don't call fire ants, cockroaches and mosquitoes to be "extraordinary" pests, especially because they are the annoyingly predominate pests.

“Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion”

IIRC, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are not to be used unless the priests and deacons present cannot reach everyone within a reasonable time.

These days it seems like that reasonable time has been reduced to about a minute forty.

I am checking out of this debate with both of you. Not because I don’t think that discussing can be fruitful, but it is clear that you have no desire for reasoned discussion. You are right, I and everyone who disagrees is wrong, because you are right.

The authority of the Church only applies when you agree with it

I think this story has played out before and you are too blind to see it.

Tell Pelosi and Martin Luther hi - I think they share / shared your logic.

And no ebb - don’t want to see more internet or news interpretations of the Church’s position. The catechism is a pretty easy and usable reference. When that is changed let me know.

Unless that doesn’t apply and I need to go an earlier version, because you don’t like it...

Take care and all the best.

Don’t worry not mad, just disappointed.

Will continue to lurk and maybe once in a while call out baseless accusations and logical inconsistencies.

All the best Martin.

After “checking out” in post 51, you have since posted twice.

Losers always have to have the last word, huh?

Well go ahead: give me your parting shot. You have the floor.

I, myself, have never touched the Body of Christ with my hands, and I never will. I refrain from doing so for my soul.

That works for me.

Then you should have never been permitted to be a Eucharistic Monster.

I have no idea what that even means.

BTW, the priest is the only Eucharistic Minister at a Mass. The priest is the Ordinary Minister. Others who help distribute Communion, which we won’t need with only 25 attendees, are properly called Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

At my church, I'm referred to as an extraordinary minister. That works for me.

In conversations outside of the physical structure, what i do is referred to in polite conversation as Eucharistic minister. When I attended Aristotle's Academy many years ago, my philosophy professor suggested, since we all see things according to our own persuasion, the real miracle is that we can communicate at all.
