Three years ago I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and through a year long process, I have been approved for Deep Brain Stimulation. I have 3 procedures to go through. The first on May 5 (tomorrow) is the simplest as they make four small incisions in my scalp and place small screws as markers for the MRI and CT which will be used to make a 3d printed jig for the second part. I will be under local anesthesia for this part because they don't want any movement during the CT and MRI. (I'm going to ask them to take videos and if I can keep the jig as a memento)
The second part on May 20 is where they use the jig drill holes in my skull to place the electrodes. I will be fully awake during this part to make sure the probes are placed correctly. There are some pretty cool videos on youtube that show how dramatic the change in tremors is.
The third procedure on May 27 is where they place the stimulator under the skin on my upper chest and attach the wires to the electrodes.
Then finally when the doctors are satisfied with the healing process (no infections or complications), they will turn the stimulator on and fine tune it for my needs. The doctor will give me a remote to turn it on and off and maybe to adjust it.

Many years ago my brother - who had epilepsy ever since he was six months old - had radical new brain surgery to correct his gran mal seizures. It started working almost from the start. It’s amazing how much progress has been made in this field. I pray that your procedure goes even better than you or anyone expects and that the Lord gives you peace throughout it all.
