Several emails have come in asking advice on cultivating an authentic, genuine personal relationship with Christ. The answer is simple, and it comes from Our Lord Himself who has told many mystic saints and doctors of the Church the same thing: THINK AND PRAY ABOUT MY PASSION AND DEATH. Why? Because thinking about Our Lords torture, agony and excruciating death forces us to confront Him as a Person, True God AND True Man. Legal systems dont sob until their capillaries burst. Philosophies dont suffer the agony of unrequited love. Imaginary friends dont lay down their lives. Bureaucracies dont fight asphyxiation by pushing themselves up on their impaled feet.

GOOD FRIDAY *PING*.
The author is Catholic but the essay is suitable for all Christians.
All true, g_w.
Thanks for sharing. I’m sure many of the author’s observations are true. But not mentioned is Jesus’ primary reason for agony - that is the separation from his Father and the torment of judgement and hell that defines that separation.
Certainly, Jesus goes to the cross driven by love for people. But he does so also out of obedience to his Father, knowing that it will be the Father’s wrath that will torment the most. That is what drives his agony in the garden.
Could you give me a specific reference where Christs agony was due to
God the Fathers wrath??
