White Evangelicals Say Trump Fights for Their Beliefs, Pew Survey Finds

As progressive Americans continue to express bewilderment about white evangelical Protestants’ support of President Donald Trump, a new Pew Research Center survey offers findings that help explain this important electoral community’s commitment.

As the 2020 presidential election cycle accelerates, Pew released results Thursday about its recent research which explores the links between religion and politics, including perceptions of evangelical Protestants and other faith groups’ views of Trump.

“White evangelicals largely see Trump as fighting for their beliefs and advancing their interests ...,” the Pew report said, “... and they feel their side generally has been winning recently on political matters important to them.”..

Overall, Pew said it found that “Americans care more about having a president who stands up for their religious beliefs than having one who personally shares those beliefs.”

And, the survey found, “white evangelicals say Trump fits the bill: Fully eight-in-ten white evangelical Protestants say that the phrase ‘fights for what I believe in’ describes Trump ‘very well’ or ‘fairly well,’ including roughly half who say this describes him ‘very well.’”Almost seven out of ten “say it is either very (38 percent) or somewhat (31 percent) important to have a president who stands up for people with their religious beliefs.”..only 7 percent feel that Trump has hurt “the interests of evangelical Christians.

Despite feeling the president stands up for them, white evangelical Protestants say, “they are less convinced that he personally lives a moral and ethical life or conducts himself admirably,” Pew reports. “Just 15 percent of white evangelicals say the phrase ‘morally upstanding’ describes Trump very well, and about a quarter say ‘honest’ is a very good descriptor of the president (23 percent). About one-third of white evangelicals (31 percent) say they like the way Trump conducts himself as president (aside from his positions on the issues). Fully two-thirds either have ‘mixed feelings’ about his conduct (44 percent) or say they don’t like it (22 percent). And only about one-in-eight white evangelicals (12 percent) think Trump is a very religious person.”

Evangelicals (as labelled by pollsters) have been the most conservative major voting block in past presidential elections, which should continue, thank God, though the younger ones are evangelical-light.

I wonder if Democrats’ love of abortion could have anything to do with it.

Why they are still able to see facts and act on those facts puzzles leftist media shills, who, btw, condemn whites and evangelicals at each and every opportunity.

“Progressive Americans”

Ain’t no such animal. “Globalist world citizens with U.N. passports who hate America as constituted” is more accurate, IMO.

Did the Pew study look at just white evangelicals or is there more stratification? I’d be interested in looking at black, Asian and Hispanic Christians in general- IOWs, all demographics calling themselves evangelical/Christian whose basic premises disinclude abortion and statism in general.

Of course, there would be some differences due to politicization by leftist key figures in these same communities- ya know the “rev Jacksons et al....

Persecuting Christians will be first on the agenda if the Democrats get power. They are already blaming Christians for everything, including Trump. Biden said Christians should be classified as terrorists.

He fights for me and has my support. He is however too feminist for me preference and also too oblivious to the homosexual agenda. Not totally oblivious thankfully.

...hence, *largely*, not perfectly.

The Sodomite genie has escaped. It will be hard putting it back in the bottle without America becoming Godly again.

According to Pew , 15% of African-Americans are members of evangelical denominations, in which African-Americans make up relatively small portions of the membership of evangelical (6%) and mainline (2%) churches.

Meanwhile Hispanics make up 15% of evangelicals, and,

63% of Hispanic evangelicals say abortion should be illegal in all or most cases. (https://www.prri.org/research/legal-in-most-cases-the-impact-of-the-abortion-debate-in-2019-america)

Asian evangelicals are very few.

It seems Biden indirectly indicated the latter, and supporting passing the Equality Act could lead to that.

The white evangelists....

Luke 7:36-50 King James Version (KJV)

36 And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat.

37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,

38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.

40 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.

41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.

42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?

43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.

44 And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.

45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.

46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.

47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.

48 And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.

49 And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?

50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

... are more likely to be folks who realize their sins and ask for forgiveness of them.

We will identify with someone else who has experienced that; too; instead of someone who boasts about how good they are in their own eyes. Luke 18:9-14

Thanks,

I went to the PEW website but didn’t find that info you posted.

Wonder how these demographs responded to the same Trump questions.

Not sure what you mean: “African-Americans make up relatively small portions of the membership of evangelical (6%) and mainline (2%) churches” is indeed stated in https://www.pewforum.org/2009/01/30/a-religious-portrait-of-african-americans/

2009 is a bit dated. Don’t think anyone asked about Trump in that poll.
