Amid Coronavirus Pandemic, Pope's Easter Liturgies Closed to Public

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Pope Francis’ liturgies for Holy Week and Easter, which usually include the presence of thousands of people, will be held without public attendance this year.

According to an online notice from the Prefecture of the Papal Household, “because of the current global public health emergency, all the Liturgical Celebrations of Holy Week will take place without the physical presence of the faithful.”

The Prefecture of the Papal Household is the office responsible for distributing the free of charge tickets which grant pilgrims access to Pope Francis’ general audiences and other public liturgies.

Pope Francis’ schedule for Holy Week begins April 5 with Palm Sunday Mass in St. Peter’s Square.

The schedule proceeds with a Chrism Mass on Holy Thursday, April 9, in St. Peter’s Basilica.

Good Friday he is slated to celebrate the Lord’s Passion in the basilica before leading Stations of the Cross at the Coliseum.

Pope Francis will also offer Easter Vigil Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica and Mass for Easter Sunday in the square before giving the traditional “Urbi et Orbi” blessing from the balcony of the basilica at 12:00 pm.

These liturgies will all now be held without the presence of pilgrims or other visitors. It is not clear if the planned locations or times of the liturgies will change.

One of the things I have found most upsetting about all this is how the Church has simply abandoned the faithful. The Church could have done much to stem the panic and keep society pulled together, in addition to providing strength and comfort to the individual believer, but instead the supposed leaders, starting with Bergoglio, fled into isolation and barred the door behind them.

Could it be that...that they actually have no faith themselves? I think we can see the answer to that question in their shameful behavior.

I hope another outcome of this debacle is hearts shifting from trusting in the Church to trusting in God in Christ, our mighty Redeemer and Helper.

Which is probably a very good thing. This “Pope” is the anti-Christ. The less people here from him, the better for everybody.

I don’t think anybody has ever trusted in the Church, but knew that its function was to call people to God in Christ and maintain that faith alive against all pressure. They certainly haven’t done a very good job at that!

Amen, brother!

"Due to the coronavirus pandemic"

Pardon me, but this should read, "Due to the coronavirus panic."

Ridiculous. Jesus wouldn’t have closed off a Mass.

Pope’s Easter announcement: For this year, if the Easter Bunny sees you outside looking for eggs. He’s gonna be ‘ah kicking your azz.”

I agree with all of you here. After our highest attending Mass today was like a weekday one and Lysol wipe container in the Holy Water font, I confronted our priest after the service. I told him the Bishops and Pope in Hiding were not hearing from the Holy Spirit as I was but causing panic and fear. Jesus first words to disciples after He rose was “fear not”. I told him I have stopped giving and will this prevent my soon to be 100 year old father from having a funeral here as I can not see him in the nursing home and same with me? He said it would not.The other parishioners think I am an angry nut most likely.

I doubt Pope Bergolio will actually conduct any service since no one will know if he does or does not.
