Why Does A Priest Support President Trump?
https://www.romancatholicman.com ^ | January 3, 2020 | Fr. Richard Heilman

Anyone who has been following me on social media, recalls that I was an adamant anti-Trumper, during the primaries, leading up to the 2016 election. I was in shock when, even people I knew, supported him. He came across as a vulgar, conceited bully. I had my ideas about the class, dignity and decorum expected of someone holding the high office of the Presidency, and Trump was light years away from the image I had carved in my mind. I simply could not even fathom a Trump presidency.

Once he emerged as the Republican candidate, I moved into “anybody but Hillary” mode. Yes, I am a staunch pro-lifer, so anyone advocating killing children is a horror to me. But, it was even more than that. I had become more acutely aware of a “ruling class” who were diametrically opposed to virtually anything that smacked of biblical virtues, morals and values. Over the past few decades, every major institution has been captured by this radical secular left ruling class. The media, Hollywood, TV, universities, public schools, theater, the arts, literature — they relentlessly promote the false gods of sexual hedonism and radical individualism.

Left unchecked, I knew that Godly people would soon be forced to support more and more of their ungodly agendas. Moreover, I was on to their game of claiming to be champions for the poor when, in reality, they had done everything within their power to sustain widespread poverty in order to maintain a dependent voter base.

Trump wasn't my first choice during the primaries...not even close. And I must admit that if I were advising him as President I'd strongly advise him to "present" himself...that is,express himself...somewhat differently at various times.

But I voted for him in '16 as being the *much* lesser of two evils and today I recognize him, imperfections and all,as being about the best President of my lifetime (Truman being my first President).Only Reagan is in the same league in terms of the benefit he's been to this country.

Ditto to your “must read” recommendation - no punches are pulled & no quarter is given. The target is clearly identified & the goal requires all hands to focus on it. The wishy-washy need not apply.

Now this wahoo gets it?

I suppose he liked the eay doofus Obambi sounded when speaking in front of a teleprompter.

And you wonder why churches are empty?

Sorry Padre, you had no faith and only come around after proof.

Trump was the fighter we needed coming down the escalator.

Don't forget the good thief who was crucified along side of Christ.

Or..as they say in AA: "better late than never".

He is one of reasons that thousands are leaving the Church. He will vote Democrat this year as he always does. I have no urge to read his story attempt to stay relevant.

Sorry but Fr. Heilman is the reason many are staying in the church. He is an awesome priest who is trying to bring people back to God. If you did read his site and social media you would see that God is also using him in this important time in history to restore the church. Blanket accusations don’t help anything.

Having followed the time-honored FR tradition of posting before reading the article, my first thought was ‘why not?’

I will read the article, I promise.

“Or..as they say in AA: better late than never.”

They say a lot of things in AA, one is they constantly reaffirm that they are an alcoholic when in truth they are trying to become a non-drinking alcoholic, but by constantly saying they are an alcoholic they are not renewing their minds. That strikes me as counterproductive, and conflicts with just about every self-improvement guru out there.

There is a lot to be said about positive self reinforcement, but continually calling yourself something there that you do not wish to be defeats the purpose.

I’m no expert, but I think part of the idea is that many alcoholics spend a lot of time in denial. “I’m not an alcoholic”, “I can quit any time I want”, “I don’t have a problem — you have a problem”.

I think AA wants to end the denial and teaches people to accept that they don’t handle alcohol well. Never forget it. Never slip. The problem doesn’t go away.

To the extent that they “renew their mind” I think the ending of the denial is the goal.

totally agree ... I stopped drinking alcohol when I started telling myself and others: "I don't drink alcohol."

Reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from a favorite film, Boondock Saints:

Connor: [as the brothers exit the church] "I do believe the monsignor's finally got the point."

Murphy: "Aye."

Amen to that. I decided that very day that Trump was the only man standing who could get this country up off of its knees. And he has proven me right in ways I didn’t think possible. Best President in over a century — BY FAR!
