Pope Francis has blasted conservative Christians who pursue their faith too rigidly cautioning their rigid outlook is developing a minefield of misunderstanding and hatred.
The head of the Catholic Church made the remarks he spoke honestly to cardinals, bishops, priests and members of staff in the Sala Clementina on Saturday in the Apostolic Palace, Vatican City for his annual Christmas address.
Other church leaders were warned by the pope that the church doesnt enjoy the authority it once did anymore, proposing they should stimulate followers to be more inclusive of other religions.
This year perceived the papacy rocked by historical sex abuse claims and financial public embarrassment.
I mentioned Heiser in our “pre service worship team meeting” a couple of weeks ago. The head pastor and I talk about him from time to time. Anyway, after the service, the youth pastor came up to me and we started talking about it. Turns out we are both huge Heiser and “naked bible podcast” fans, as well as fans of the book, “Unseen Realm”.
I was off to Chicago (where I am now) after the discussion, but we will have many discussions to follow, I’m sure. It speaks to why I joined this church. They don’t just shout “Blasphemer!” knee-jerk when you say something they may not agree with. They know our knowledge is not perfect and will allow you to make your case. They will then either come back with good arguments, or let it lie...
The “Blasphemer!” attitude is that of the Pharisees.
So, tell us what he said. If you can't, then your defense is phony.
As stupid as the comment about rigid Catholics is, it is far from heresy.
I’m saying that he didn’t use the words “Conservative Christians” in this speech. If you think you can find it in the speech go ahead, but I only see the phrase in the headlines, not in his actual remarks.
Hmm.....So you’re why this is happening...
Go to Hell, Bergoglio.
Good point, but I don’t think Pope Francis fails to realize this. I think that, for him, the Church’s loss of numbers and influence is a feature, not a glitch.
Just because rigid (and non-rigid) conservative Christians don’t buy his blasphemy.
I say here constantly that Benedict was in fact removed to make room for this cretin by progressive forces in the Vatican and COC
nobody ever challenges that here
You’re correct as far as I can tell. I don’t see that he actually used those words.
I also think it’s odd the way they use single quote marks in some places and double quote marks in others. Makes me wonder if they think single quotes are somehow less “official” and allow them to paraphrase rather than using the exact words.
... it is far from heresy.
I understand, but his blatant disregard for extended tradition, and support for behavior that is considered to prevent one from entering into the Kingdom of God, is...
The Left has marched through all of the major religions.
As several folks have said, the church is about to experience a revolution as it adapts to the idea of Fallen Angels, Nephilim, and giants as a major thread throughout the Old Testament.
All of a sudden, the Flood, Joshua, Caleb, and the spies, and why God commanded that entire bloodlines were to be eliminated (included livestock) takes on new meaning...new IMPORTANT meaning.
Human life since the Garden of Eden is about to take on a new look.
The funny thing is that the Bible is fully supported albeit from an opposing viewpoint by Mesopotamian/Sumerian/Assyrian/Akkadian, etc. myths and legends passed down in various cultures and found in cuneiform inscribed steles and tablets. And then there are the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Exactly!
One thing I try to point out to people is that we need to shake off this “shepherd’s religion” nonsense about Christianity and the God of the OT. A better viewpoint is to watch the Star Wars movies, the Avengers stuff, and realize that the wildest things seen in those movies is child’s play compared to our God and creator.
Though space appears to be dark between stars, the light from every star is passing through every point in space. i.e. space is STUFFED TO THE GILLS WITH LIGHT. And God is light. :)
Amen. I can’t remember a worse Pope in my lifetime. He is a complete poser.
Sling enough mud and eventually people will believe it. Sounds like the Demon-ratic party.
As liberals are to the “living” constitution; this pope is to the “living” Bible.
Hmmmm. Profound analogy imo. Good job.
Jesus is God. I believe that when He said He would found His Church on “Rock” and named Simon “Rock” He meant what He said. And that was the belief of the Church which Ignatius called Catholic on his way to be eaten by lions in 104 AD.
