Christianity Today Article: "Trump Should Be Removed from Office"
Christianity Today ^ | 12/20/2019 | Mark Galli

Posted on 12/20/2019 5:05:06 AM PST by JesusIsLord

In our founding documents, Billy Graham explains that Christianity Today will help evangelical Christians interpret the news in a manner that reflects their faith. The impeachment of Donald Trump is a significant event in the story of our republic. It requires comment.

. . . Trump’s evangelical supporters have pointed to his Supreme Court nominees, his defense of religious liberty, and his stewardship of the economy, among other things, as achievements that justify their support of the president. We believe the impeachment hearings have made it absolutely clear, in a way the Mueller investigation did not, that President Trump has abused his authority for personal gain and betrayed his constitutional oath. The impeachment hearings have illuminated the president’s moral deficiencies for all to see. .....

. . . We have reserved judgment on Mr. Trump for years now. Some have criticized us for our reserve. But when it comes to condemning the behavior of another, patient charity must come first. So we have done our best to give evangelical Trump supporters their due, to try to understand their point of view, to see the prudential nature of so many political decisions they have made regarding Mr. Trump. ... And just when we think it’s time to push all our chips to the center of the table, that’s when the whole game will come crashing down. It will crash down on the reputation of evangelical religion and on the world’s understanding of the gospel. And it will come crashing down on a nation of men and women whose welfare is also our concern.

‘Unfathomable’: Rev. Franklin Graham slams Christianity Today for demanding Trump’s removal
Washington Examiner ^ | 12/20/2019 | Jon Brown
Posted on 12/20/2019, 5:28:58 AM by SeekAndFind

Evangelist Franklin Graham tore into the magazine his father founded after the flagship evangelical publication called for President Trump to be removed from office.

In a statement posted to Facebook on Thursday night, Graham wrote, “Christianity Today released an editorial stating that President Trump should be removed from office, and they invoked my father’s name (I suppose to try to bring legitimacy to their statements), so I feel it is important for me to respond.”

Conceding that his father helped establish the periodical in 1956, Franklin Graham maintained that Billy Graham, who died in 2018 at age 99, would not countenance the viewpoints espoused by the editorial board against the president. “Yes, my father Billy Graham founded Christianity Today,” Graham wrote, “but no, he would not agree with their opinion piece. In fact, he would be very disappointed.”

Revealing that the last vote his father cast was for Trump, Franklin went on to claim that Billy Graham “knew Donald Trump, he believed in Donald Trump, and he voted for Donald Trump. He believed that Donald J. Trump was the man for this hour in history for our nation.”

“For Christianity Today to side with the Democrat Party in a totally partisan attack on the President of the United States is unfathomable,” Graham continued. He pointed to the lopsided vote in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, in which no Republican voted in favor of impeachment. “I know a number of Republicans in Congress, and many of them are strong Christians,” said Graham. “If the President were guilty of what the Democrats claimed, these Republicans would have joined with the Democrats to impeach him.”

“This impeachment was politically motivated, 100% partisan,” Graham asserted. “Why would Christianity Today choose to take the side of the Democrat left whose only goal is to discredit and smear the name of a sitting president?” Graham closed out his statement by saying that Christianity Today “has moved to the left and is representing the elitist liberal wing of evangelicalism.”

Graham then cited Trump’s accomplishments for people of faith, such as opposing abortion and mitigating the reach of ISIS. Graham has been a staunch supporter of the president and has claimed that “a demonic power” is fueling the fury behind impeachment and the political turmoil roiling the nation.

I would encourage my FR friends to unsubscribe from Christianity Today and contact them to share your thoughts concerning their editor's anti-Trump article.

I did not even realize CT still had a print publication. I haven't seen one in so long.

Here is the tell that colors the entire sordid piece:

"We want CT to be a place that welcomes Christians from across the political spectrum, and reminds everyone that politics is not the end and purpose of our being. We take pride in the fact, for instance, that politics does not dominate our homepage."

This is, simply stated, a lie. What he/they have done is to sacrifice who they were and what they represented in order to placate or pander to leftists. My brother saw this exact statement made by his pastor immediately before that pastor revealed that he was making their church a sanctuary for the alphabet gang and that he would no longer minister to conservatives (his exact wording).

For anyone to take this stance reveals that they have chosen to turn their head away from God. He is now lost and incapable of leading anyone anywhere but equally astray.

Makes you wonder if there isn’t a LBT.... element over at Christianity Today.

Those who can HATE that much usually have a abnormal bent.

The writer praises the dems... does he know that they kicked God out of their platform and party.

I think Mr Galli is a phony.

Boys and girls, men and women SETTLE down.. There might be a bright side to all of this. A group like Christianity Today, to the liberal press who thinks they speak for christians.. now takes a stance against Trump. Think how this unlinks and unhooks their narrative that says that Trump was elected by crazies, evangelicals. I think it is good political posturing to help christians see that WE TOO HAVE A SWAMP that needs drained, and for that reason many are no longer going to church. I think this article will catapult a lot of people in slumber and get them to THINK, something people don’t do a lot of lately. GO TRUMP.

Another imposter is Christian Science Monitor. A total Leftist agenda. Well-written, but a total anti-Trump publication.

The Christian Science church should demand they remove their name and keep it out of their publication.

Absolutely spot on. Pelosi and her sorry gang are trying to install a state religion (including some elements of watered down Christianity) to replace true Christianity. And bleating sheep like CT are too willing to cooperate because they crave the money and political power that a state sponsored religion would bestow upon them.

This should help us understand the magazine’s position.

Why a ‘yes’ to gays is often a ‘no’ to evangelicalism (COMMENTARY)

Washington Post June 10, 2015

A less-noted, though more consequential, announcement came later Monday. David Neff, who retired in 2012 as editor of evangelicalism’s flagship magazine, Christianity Today, agreed with Campolo’s affirmation of gay Christians.

Neff’s announcement required a rapid response from the evangelical establishment in a way Campolo’s did not. Had Christianity Today’s position changed? Is Neff still an evangelical in good standing?

Christianity Today editor Mark Galli reassured readers Tuesday that the magazine still considers same-sex sexual expression sinful and believes marriage is by nature between a man and a woman.

“We at CT are sorry when fellow evangelicals modify their views to accord with the current secular thinking on this matter,” he wrote.

Galli said that Neff had enlisted “in a cause we believe is ultimately destructive to society.” He could have explicitly rebuked his predecessor, but instead said he does not feel compelled to distance himself from Neff.

The Rev. Albert Mohler, president of Louisville’s Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, said Galli’s kinder, gentler condemnation made no sense.

Congratulations, CT: in the name of ‘Christianity’, you’ve now (more fully) aligned yourself with a crowd whose sworn duties involve anti-God, anti-Christ, anti-Life activities. These are the enemies of Biblical Christianity.

This isn’t about whether we have a perfect President... there isn’t such a thing. This is about who you stand with: Christ or the enemies of Christ.

Mark Galli Announces Retirement as Editor in Chief of Christianity Today
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Contact: Ted Olsen, Editorial Director
E-mail: tolsen@christianitytoday.com

Carol Stream, IL October 7, 2019 — Mark Galli announced his retirement as editor in chief of Christianity Today, where he has served in various editorial roles for the last 30 years.

“I’ve been EIC for about seven years now, and as it goes with many jobs, I think I finally understand what I should have been doing all along!” Galli said.” It has been quite a ride for the ministry, economically and journalistically. Some definite lows, to be sure, and some wonderful highs. Aside from a strong sense of God’s call, what’s given me most joy is the people I have worked with—men and women who are passionate about their faith and dedicated to their work, and have a sense of humor to boot.”

Galli will retire January 3, 2020, and will continue to write The Galli Report, a weekly newsletter discussing recent articles of interest. In April, Tyndale will publish his latest book, When Did We Start Forgetting God?: The Root of the Evangelical Crisis and Hope for the Future. Galli, who earlier served as a Presbyterian pastor and as an editor at Leadership Journal and Christian History magazines, is also the author of Karl Barth: An Introductory Biography for Evangelicals, Beyond Smells and Bells: The Wonder and Power of Christian Liturgy, and other volumes.

The author creates stupid equivalency “President Trump is fighting to save millions of babies in the womb, but he sometimes says crude things, and that outweighs any good he’s doing.” As if potty mouth is the same as killing babies. The author is an immoral idiot.
