Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Music in The Bible)

Psalm 19

Psalm 19[a]

For the director of music. A psalm of David.

1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
    the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
2 Day after day they pour forth speech;
    night after night they reveal knowledge.
3 They have no speech, they use no words;
    no sound is heard from them.
4 Yet their voice[b] goes out into all the earth,
    their words to the ends of the world.
In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.
5     It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
    like a champion rejoicing to run his course.
6 It rises at one end of the heavens
    and makes its circuit to the other;
    nothing is deprived of its warmth.

7 The law of the Lord is perfect,
    refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,
    making wise the simple.
8 The precepts of the Lord are right,
    giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant,
    giving light to the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is pure,
    enduring forever.
The decrees of the Lord are firm,
    and all of them are righteous.

10 They are more precious than gold,
    than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,
    than honey from the honeycomb.
11 By them your servant is warned;
    in keeping them there is great reward.
12 But who can discern their own errors?
    Forgive my hidden faults.
13 Keep your servant also from willful sins;
    may they not rule over me.
Then I will be blameless,
    innocent of great transgression.

14 May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
    be pleasing in your sight,
    Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, Our God,
How Wonderful,
How Excellent,
How Glorious is Your Most Holy Name!
How True is Your Word, and How Mighty!
How Glorious, to Span the Millennia,
To be Unfettered by Time and Space,
To Know The End from the Beginning
and the Beginning from The End!
Because, Indeed, You ARE The Beginning and the End of All Things!
For it is You, Oh LORD,
Who designed the Galaxies with Your Compass,
And Mapped Out the Vast Reaches of Space With Your Word
and Your Omniscient Imagination!
Scientists tell us even the heavens are finite.
But YOU are Infinite!
Fancy Ceremonies and Florid Speeches do not impress You,
For Your Have Told us You desire Obedience, not Sacrifice,
And without Faith, it is Impossible to please You.
LORD, remind us ALWAYS to Worship You,
and not Your Creation.
Although it is a Huge temptation,
As Your Works are so Wonderful!
Let us always remember,
Your creation is there but to proclaim YOUR GLORY.
Hallelujah and Amen.

For the Sake of Your Anointed,
and For The Sake of Your Name,
We pray for the Peace of Jerusalem,
For Israel,
According to Your Word,
and Your Promise.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Several years ago, I found myself laughing out loud at a You Tube Video called "Six Country Song Mashup". I can't find it now, so I think it may have been taken down for Copyright Infringement. Well, at least that is the excuse. I think it may have been taken down because it revealed a deep, dark, and dirty secret about the Music Industry...Formulaic Songs which are indistinguishable from one another. The only way one could tell the songs apart was from which track lit up on a mixing board.

This is the "Formula":

Distinctive Intro: (Usually Instrumental Hook that is a Signature Riff)
Verse 1
Pre-Chorus (sometimes)
Chorus
Verse 2
Pre-Chorus
Chorus
Bridge (or Instrumental solo if the artist is good at it)
Pre-Chorus
Chorus
Verse 3 (sometimes)
Pre-Chorus
Chorus (sometimes repeated)
and, finally,
The Coda, or Tag. Sometimes it is just a repeat and fade ending).

And that's that. Literary devices such as Narrative, Laundry-Lists, Similes, Metaphors, Personification, Hyperbole, and Alliteration usually appear in the verses, and the Chorus usually contains a catchy phrase known as "The Hook". This Formula has taken centuries to develop and it is a good one, as it has a story arc and builds up to a climax, and then releases it. However, when the Industry uses only that one formula to push hit songs, it becomes boring and repetitive. If any of you can find the 6-Song Country Mash-Up, please feel free to share the link!

Now, let's look at the magnificent Psalm 19.

The Musical Directions tell us that this is a Psalm of David for the Music Director. It is both a Liturgical Hymn, and a very personal explosion of Praise from the very poetic and talented Songwriter, David.

It Begins with the very Heavens declaring the Glory of their Creator. Although the silent stars are given a voice (Personification) they are not divine. They are created things. They are not to be worshiped (Deut 4:19, 17:3), nor do they predict the Future (Isaiah 47:13, Jer 10:2, Dan 4:7). Their glory is a testimony to the Power of their Creator. (See also Ps 50:6, 89:5-8, 97:6, and Romans 10:18.) God is Self-Evident in His Creation. And that's just Verse 1 of the Song.

Verse 2 (no chorus) is a beautiful metaphor that describes the Sun like a bridegroom. The Sun is only like a bridegroom, not "The Bridegroom". The Psalmist goes on to describe beautifully the heavenly bodies making their "circuit". No "Flat-Earthers" here!

Verse 3 uses the Laundry-List Format. We read of:

The LAW of the Lord
The STATUTES of the Lord
The PRECEPTS of the Lord
The COMMANDS of the Lord
The FEAR of the Lord
The ORDINANCES of the Lord.

While these concepts may appear the same, each one has a different shade of meaning.

After this we have what could be called a "Bridge"

10 They are more precious than gold,
than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,
than honey from the honeycomb.
11 By them your servant is warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.
12 But who can discern their own errors?
Forgive my hidden faults.
13 Keep your servant also from willful sins;
may they not rule over me.
Then I will be blameless,
innocent of great transgression.

I see this as a "Bridge" because the voice changes from extolling God to introspection. David admits that he is not even qualified to examine his own heart, but needs the Grace of God to discern his sins and bring himself to repentance.

This is followed by the "Tag":

14 May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight,
Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

This is one of my favorite Psalms, and it truly is a SONG.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. ...Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.’” (2 Chronicles 20)

That’s the audio. I remember it.

But the video of the mixing board seems to be Gone With The Wind.

I remember posting it when I lived in Florida, so it’s been at least 4 years ago. ;-)
