Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Music in The Bible)

Psalm 10

Psalm 10[a]

1 Why, Lord, do you stand far off?
    Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?

2 In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak,
    who are caught in the schemes he devises.
3 He boasts about the cravings of his heart;
    he blesses the greedy and reviles the Lord.
4 In his pride the wicked man does not seek him;
    in all his thoughts there is no room for God.
5 His ways are always prosperous;
    your laws are rejected by[b] him;
    he sneers at all his enemies.
6 He says to himself, “Nothing will ever shake me.”
    He swears, “No one will ever do me harm.”

7 His mouth is full of lies and threats;
    trouble and evil are under his tongue.
8 He lies in wait near the villages;
    from ambush he murders the innocent.
His eyes watch in secret for his victims;
9     like a lion in cover he lies in wait.
He lies in wait to catch the helpless;
    he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.
10 His victims are crushed, they collapse;
    they fall under his strength.
11 He says to himself, “God will never notice;
    he covers his face and never sees.”

12 Arise, Lord! Lift up your hand, O God.
    Do not forget the helpless.
13 Why does the wicked man revile God?
    Why does he say to himself,
    “He won’t call me to account”?
14 But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted;
    you consider their grief and take it in hand.
The victims commit themselves to you;
    you are the helper of the fatherless.
15 Break the arm of the wicked man;
    call the evildoer to account for his wickedness
    that would not otherwise be found out.

16 The Lord is King for ever and ever;
    the nations will perish from his land.
17 You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted;
    you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,
18 defending the fatherless and the oppressed,
    so that mere earthly mortals
    will never again strike terror.

1. Psalm 10:1 Psalms 9 and 10 may originally have been a single acrostic poem in which alternating lines began with the successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet. In the Septuagint they constitute one psalm.

New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)

Some Translations list this Psalm as the second part of Psalm 9. And that is the reason why the subsequent Psalms have different numbers in some versions. I always wondered about that! Now I know. Just remember, the numbers came later and are not part of the Original Text, so it is NOT a "discrepancy".

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
Blessed Are You,
Oh LORD, Our God,
King of The Universe
You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are LORD,
You Alone Are The One True God of Abraham.
Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent,
There is No One Like You.
Your Name is Holy,
Blessed, and Hallowed.
Forgive us, LORD,
For ever choosing the easy path,
Or being lazy and complacent!
For surely this leads to sin.

Keep us from becoming like the enemies of Your People.
Oh How They Conspire together, Father,
Against You and Your Beloved!
They Hate You and Your Law,
How Much More So Do They Despise Your Servants?
Give Us Peace in Our Hearts When We Look at These Situations,
And Give Us Insight into What Is REALLY Going On.
Open Our Eyes to The Spiritual Warfare that Is Taking Place,
So That We Will Be Armed properly,
And not take these attacks personally.

For the Sake of Your Anointed,
and For The Sake of Your Name,
We pray for the Peace of Jerusalem,
For Israel,
According to Your Word,
and Your Promise.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

As I said yesterday, Psalm 10 can be considered a continuation of Psalm 9. There are several clues to this approach. First of all, the Septuagint, which was a very early translation of the Scriptures into Greek, has it as one Psalm. The translators were Hebrew Scholars, so they should know. Also, the letters that form the Acrostic pick up where Psalm 9 left off. That is a dead giveaway. Lastly, there are no musical directions at the top of the Psalm, which makes it different from all the other Psalms in the immediate vicinity. In a way, this reminds me of the Dylan song "Like a Rolling Stone", which was on two sides of a 45RPM record (remember those?). We fans had to listen to the beginning half of the song, flip the record over, and then listen to the second half. And I still remember the first time I listened to that song, nearly 60 years later. Although it made a big impact on my life at the time, it pales in comparison to the Inerrant Word of God!

This second half of the Psalm begins with a Lament about the wicked. David asks the big question that has plagued mankind since the beginning. "WHY?" Why do the wicked prosper, why do You let them get away with it? Why? Why? Why?

This importunate boldness teaches us a principle that is missing from most other "world religions". Who is David that he can address the King of the Universe in this manner? A human "king" would not put up with that. In fact, we know from the study of History that the advisors of the evil dictator Joseph Stalin were afraid to tell him about certain WW2 battlefield failures for fear that he would "kill the messenger". There are many other examples of this in the long saga of men's wickedness, but that is a recent one. In fact, there is a whole genre of parody videos based upon a scene in the movie "Downfall", where "Hitler finds out" about something and flies into a rage.

And so, after an impassioned plea about the wicked, David does the classic Hebrew poetic turn:

...But, YOU, Oh God...

and then answers his own question.

The LORD is King.
You HEAR.
You ENCOURAGE.
You LISTEN.
You DEFEND.

HALELLUJAH!

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. ...Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.’” (2 Chronicles 20)

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

HY standest thou afar off, O LORD? why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?

The wicked in his pride doth persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.
For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom the LORD abhorreth.

The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.

His ways are always grievous; thy judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffeth at them.

He hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity.

His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity.

He sitteth in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor.

He lieth in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lieth in wait to catch the poor: he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him into his net.

He croucheth, and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.

He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see it.

Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble.

Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God? he hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require it.

Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand: the poor committeth himself unto thee; thou art the helper of the fatherless.

Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man: seek out his wickedness till thou find none.

The LORD is King for ever and ever: the heathen are perished out of his land.

LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear:

To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress.

They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."
