How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and you do not seek the glory that is from the one and only God? Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father; the one who accuses you is Moses, in whom you have set your hope. For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me, for he wrote about Me. But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words? (John 5:4447).
Jesus pensive question, How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and you do not seek the glory that is from the one and only God? offers a crucial reason why the Jews rejected Him. Those engaged in seeking glory from one another do not humble themselves to believe in Jesus.
The Lord stunned them when He said the one who would accuse them of their rejection of Christ was Mosesthe very one in whom they had set their hope. Can you imagine how profoundly shocked and outraged the Jewish leaders must have been? In their minds, it was incomprehensible to think that Moseswhom they proudly affirmed as their leader and teacher (9:28; cf. Matt 23:2)would accuse them before God. But had they truly believed Moses, they would believe Jesus, since Moses wrote about Him.
It should come as no surprise that those who did not believe Moses writings would not believe Christs words either. If they rejected the truths taught by Moses, whom they revered, they could hardly be expected to accept the teaching of Jesus, whom they reviled. The sobering reality is that those who reject Moses teaching about Jesus will face judgment.
Ask Yourself
Jesus was able to interact forcibly with His detractors because He knew them, understood their hearts, and was aware of what blinded them to the truth. If your witness is not as effective as it should be, have you considered that perhaps youre proclaiming the gospel without stopping to understand the people youre talking to?
Studying God’s Word ping
There is no safe response to this as a Jew on Free Republic. Making Jews notice that they are unsafe here leads to silly thoughts. And a Jew will find this charge absurd and a misstatement of the Torah. As such, it is basically inappropriate for this forum.
Christians go by their own book. ‘the Way is through Me’ is a Christian idea, and it requires a complete re-interpretation of the Old Testament as well as an acceptance of a new god. It is imperative that Christians not pay too much attention to what happened at Sinai.
Please know that evangelical Christians bear no ill will toward Jews. Unlike the replacement theology of the Roman Church we believe God is not done with you yet and the Jewish people hope a special place in the history of Gods people both past and future. I would be very sad to think any of our Jewish friends feel unsafe. My only hope and prayer is that you come to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. But how could i hold ill will against the Jews when my Savior is Jewish?
Unsafe how?
Humans want certaitnity and want to know THEY are doing it the right way. See the eternal merry-go of self shaming and self doubt that imbues. Right out of the mouth of Satan. We have lost a mystical and inclusive view of God, that he is all about grace, love, inclusion and that we are already perfect in his eyes. He said it. Christ was the dove of peace, the fulfillment of the law. God is not angry at us. Never was. Most Christians want to get rid of the comma in genesis when God is looking for Adam......Adm, where are you? To Adam WHERE ARE YOU. They want to argue so angrily that "NO,NO,NO,NO, you are sinful, disgusting, garbage pail filthy and you need Jesus to make you right with God". Ummm never was said, not anywhere. Another fairy-tale of self confirming bias is the pseudo-Bible statement..."Well God is a God of Justice AND Love". He never said that. People said that. Because it fits into the human paradigm of retributional Justice. Humans thrive on revenge and making things right, as they see them.
The odds of you getting attacked on FR, other than having your ideas challenged (is that an attack?), are pretty much zero. If I went to Israel, or even just a Jewish forum, the odds of me getting attacked are 100%. Just Google for videos of Christians getting spat on over there, or the police harassing them, for missionary activity.
So all things considered, you got the better deal here.
“Legalism”
A Jew who reads in the talmud that demons will give your kid epilepsy if you don’t wait the time it takes to walk a mile after using the bathroom to have sex, should not be complaining about legalism.
But if you trade in the extreme legalism and racial resentment of the talmud for the exclusivity and grace of Christ, you’ll be a lot better off for it and won’t have to worry about the demons that dwell in toilets.
If you are going to post Christian theology here, LEAVE US OUT OF THE TITLE.
If you can’t make that LITTLE accommodation you gain no respect from me.
There are so many misunderstandings about jewdaism.
Christians don’t seem to understand very well, how the entire doctrine can be seen as hostile. Which is rather odd, since it basically condemns jews to hell for all eternity.
No, wonder that makes a person a bit more...apprehensive..
But, it is deeper than that.
Christianity is by its very nature very hostile to jewdaism.
It’s main claim is that instead of welcoming the Messiah, the jews rejected him and killed him.
You can sort of never come back from that?
So, the only natural reaction is to recoil.
So, now we live in this weird relationship where zionist Christians are only pro-Israel in order for the third temple to be built.
Where they believe the jews will welcome the anti-christ...
Literally Satan....
In order for Jesus to come back and force them all to bow at his feet, before throwing them into hell.
¨
All very weird.
Then to top that off...
The zionists in Israel court these people.
“Hey any support is better than none?” or so the reasoning must go.
It seems to be an altogether unhealthy relationship to me.
Just because people are not honest anymore, if we ever were.
I want too build bridges and learn, but...
Sent a mail to faith...
That is the title at the site. FR rules are to post the title from the reference, not make a new one.
You are jewish?
I think it is good that you see it...
Personally, I agree that is is not very respectful - perhaps.
But, what good does hiding what is in plain sight do?
“are unsafe here”
I have not noticed...
Not noticed that...
A ban wave of jews here?
However, a lot of people have been banned and suspended for God know’s what...
I got suspended for wanting to study the Talmud.
They got that wrong. Trolling they said. I really want to learn more and get all the help I get, because it is complicated for sure.
So, dalight, feel free to start that thread...
I think Rambam is a good starting point.
The opening verse of our text shows that a scribe who was impressed by Jesus’ wise answer, approached and asked Jesus: “Which commandment is the first of all?” This was an important question! It does not suggest any hidden agenda behind it. The question was also common among the rabbis of the time. Of the 613 commandments, the rabbis debated which one was the first - the most important so they could use it to interpret all the others. On this basis, by asking Jesus what commandment was the first, the scribe wanted to benefit from Jesus wisdom in dealing with such an important issue.
In his response Jesus said, “The first is, ‘Hear O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love your God with all your heart, and all your soul, and all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second is this, ‘You shall love you neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these” (12:29-31).
Isn’t it this simple? Or complicated?
And it seems others agree:
What is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbor: that is the whole Torah while the rest is commentary; go and learn it.
Hillel.
I came by this guy I had never heard about by some weird chance yesterday.
He is a fantastic scientist and absolutely nails it on how current science just have no idea about abiotic creation.
If you are a doctor you might appreciate his take on things.
Make no mistake. This is a brilliant man...

Then, a link away from that. I had no idea the man was Jewish....

To me, God is love...and truth...
And, that is Jesus. So you might never have heard about the name Jesus, but if you know love and truth... You do know him.
And, that applies to many people of other religions or no religion at all.
And, the reverse applies to many that call themselves Christian.
Do not judge, lest ye be judged.
My thoughts....
That he did.
That’s probably the title of the article from the original source.
Seeing as how you are a minority and such accommodations would not be made on a Jewish forum, I don’t think it is necessary to edit titles to appease you.
Have you read the Talmud lately? It is by its very nature hostile to "the goyim," who are regarded as little better than cattle. And what's with this spelling of Judaism?
