Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Music in The Bible)
Psalm 4
Psalm 4[a]
For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A psalm of David.
1 Answer me when I call to you,
my righteous God.
Give me relief from my distress;
have mercy on me and hear my prayer.
2 How long will you people turn my glory into shame?
How long will you love delusions and seek false gods[b]?[c]
3 Know that the Lord has set apart his faithful servant for himself;
the Lord hears when I call to him.
4 Tremble and[d] do not sin;
when you are on your beds,
search your hearts and be silent.
5 Offer the sacrifices of the righteous
and trust in the Lord.
6 Many, Lord, are asking, Who will bring us prosperity?
Let the light of your face shine on us.
7 Fill my heart with joy
when their grain and new wine abound.
8 In peace I will lie down and sleep,
for you alone, Lord,
make me dwell in safety.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
How Hallowed,
Magnificent,
And Blessed
Is Your Most Holy Name!
How Present and True is Your Word,
And How Mighty!
How Glorious,
To Span the Millennia,
To be Unfettered by Time and Space,
To Know The End from the Beginning
And the Beginning from The End!
For it is You, Oh LORD,
Who designed the Galaxies with Your Compass,
And Mapped Out the Vast Reaches of Space
With Your Word and Your Omniscient Imagination!
LORD, remind us ALWAYS to Worship You,
And not Your Creation.
Your creation is there but to proclaim YOUR GLORY.
Keep us from temptation,
From making idols of money,
Of silver and gold,
Of the pleasures of the flesh,
Or lust of the eyes.
Deliver our nation from the high priests of liberalism,
Who delight in sacrificing generations of children to their god of convenience.
Remove from us the worship of Baal (celebrity),
The worship of Mammon (money),
The worship of Molech (abortion and immorality)
And the worship of the "hosts of heaven" (divination and astrology)
Deliver those from bondage, who have become enslaved to any of these false idols.
For the Sake of Your Anointed,
and For The Sake of Your Name,
We pray for the Peace of Jerusalem,
For Israel,
According to Your Word,
and Your Promise.
We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

About ten years ago, I was teaching music in an adult education program in Broward County. One of my students could not get a babysitter that evening, so she had her 9-year-old daughter in tow. As I explained the arrangement of the black and white keys on the piano (two black keys and a gap, three black keys and a gap), one of the adults asked:
"Why doesn't it just be black and white all the way with no gaps?"
Well, then I proceeded to give a long explanation of the Major Scale, The Greek Modes, the Steps and Half-Steps in the Major and Relative Minor, when the little girl raised her hand.
I know why," she said. "It's so you can FIND the Notes!"
And, you know, that was the correct answer!
Just as yesterday's Psalm started out with a brief biographical note, today's Song comes with musical directions. In fact, in the Hebrew Bible, these musical directions are actually numbered as "Verse 1" so all the subsequent verses don't match. But don't let that bother you, as the chapter and verse numbers were all added later than the original text. Thank Goodness for them though! Otherwise, it would be very difficult to find anything.
These musical directions tell us a lot. First of all, by assigning it to the Music Director, we can see that it was meant to be played and sung in the Temple Service. In 1 Chronicles 25, we meet the Music Director and also learn about the "Stringed Instruments" that were used in the Liturgy. They are the Harp and the Lyre, and much research has given us the shape and look of these instruments. They are made to this day in Israel and are called a kinor. While one kinor may not be very loud, a lot of them in unison would make quite a big sound. Add to that the big male choir, and the responses from the congregation. This practice continues today, both in the Antiphons of traditional liturgy, and the "Responsorial Psalms" in less formal hymnals. By involving the congregation into the liturgy, the Psalmist is including them in the petition and the worship.
The Psalm begins with an invocation, asking God to hear the prayer. Then it states that the powerless can look to God for protection. A rebuke against idols is next, and then a blessing for The "godly". This word "godly" is hasid in the Hebrew, and is usually used to refer to God's People, ie: His "saints".
Verse 6 carries a Blessing that is so similar to Aaron's Blessing of the People in Numbers 6:25-26 that it gives us continuity and confirmation of God's Love and Provision.
And, finally, the Psalm ends with the Blessing of Peace and Safety in the Arms of the Lord.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
This is what the Lord says to you: Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but Gods. ...Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you. (2 Chronicles 20)
God Bless America!
