The Chagos Islands were UNINHABITED until the Portuguese settled them in the 16th Century.

The French wrestled them away in the 1770s and the British took them after the Napoleonic wars.

There is NO SUCH thing as a Chagosian. The so-called natives were people the colonial powers brought there to work the plantations.

FROM WIKIPEDIA:

The islanders were known as the Ilois (one French Creole word for “islanders”) and they numbered about 1,000. They were of mixed African, South Indian, Portuguese, English, French and Malay descent and lived very simple, spartan lives in their isolated archipelago working in the coconut and sugar plantations, or in the fishing and small textile industries. Few remains of their culture have been left, although their language is still spoken by some of their descendants in Mauritius.

The inhabitants of Chagos were speaking Chagossian Creole, also known as Ilois creole, a French Creole which has not been properly researched from the linguistic point of view.

The island names are a mixture of Dutch, French, English and Ilois Creole.

The tribes that inhabited the islands were forcibly removed by the US and British governments during the late 1960s and early 1970s—effectively turning the islands into a military base. While a number of islanders had petitioned for the return of their former homes, their efforts have not been accepted by the US and UK legal systems. Outside of the US, the main island of Diego Garcia is the world’s largest military base.

For the past 50 years the main Chagossian island of Diego Garcia has been the site of a US military base. The population of the islands, numbering about 1,500 people at the time, was evicted by Britain in the Sixties and Seventies to pave the way for the construction of the base.

He doesn’t waste any time on that “Great Commission” thing, does he? Maybe he never heard of it.

He needs to mind his own business and focus on righting the wrongs in Catholicism.

What might that be all about. Dispossessing NATO of access to Diego Garcia wouldn't be on any socialists agenda now would it.

The Chagos archipelago is only 1328 miles from Port Louis, Mauritius. It appears to have almost no economic value and no indigenous population, sporting some fishing, some coconuts on the few parts of the archipelago that is permanently above high tide. The main econommic activity is military support activities on Diego Garcia.

Maybe we should offer to give it up when Russia returns the Crimea to Ukraine, which will happen like never [ PS where is the papal proclamation on that?].

Was Henry VIII on to something after all?

Yes, Church of England substitutes the infallibility of the Queen for the infallibility of the Pope. It seems like the Queen might have a wit more of common sense, humanity and humility.

Doesn’t Pope Francis remember Henry VIII ? Since then the papacy means little or nothing in the UK.
