Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Old Testament)

2 Kings 23

Jehoahaz King of Judah

31 Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. His mother’s name was Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah; she was from Libnah. 32 He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, just as his predecessors had done. 33 Pharaoh Necho put him in chains at Riblah in the land of Hamath so that he might not reign in Jerusalem, and he imposed on Judah a levy of a hundred talents[c] of silver and a talent[d] of gold. 34 Pharaoh Necho made Eliakim son of Josiah king in place of his father Josiah and changed Eliakim’s name to Jehoiakim. But he took Jehoahaz and carried him off to Egypt, and there he died. 35 Jehoiakim paid Pharaoh Necho the silver and gold he demanded. In order to do so, he taxed the land and exacted the silver and gold from the people of the land according to their assessments.

We Come Into Your Holy Presence To Worship You,
And You Alone.
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are LORD,
You Alone Are The One True God of The Universe!
Ancient of Days,
Rock of Ages,
LORD of Hosts,
Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent,
You Know the End from the Beginning,
And the Beginning from the End.
Because You ARE The Beginning and The End,
The Aleph~Tav
The Alpha and the Omega!

You formed us in the secret places of our mother's womb,

Father, We pray For Your Will To Be Made Manifest,

So obvious and Apparent,
That NOBODY DARE say,
"So, Where is their God?"

Who are We, mere humans,
to make gods in our own image?
And yet we bow down to gods of silver and gold,
And even idols of human flesh.
Electronic idols beckon to us,
to distract us from YOU, Abba, Father!
And False Idols of the Earth, Which You Formed,
Worshiping the creature rather than the Creator,
Making goddesses of the planets and stars,
Which are just bits of rock and ice,
And the Work of Your Fingers!
Forgive us our great sin, Dear LORD!

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Poor King Josiah! If he had known how good-for-nothing his sons were going to be, perhaps he would have made other arrangements for his succession. But that wouldn't have worked out either, because God had promised that the Throne of David would be forever, and so the line had to continue.

The elder, Eliakim, was passed over in favor of the younger, Jehoahaz, but the new king only lasted three months. Even in that short amount of time he managed to usurp all of his father's reforms, and drag his nation right back into idolatry and corruption. Necho, the King of Egypt, was just waiting for that moment to spring, capture the king, put him in chains, and make his elder brother a puppet ruler. To cement his dominance over Eliakim, Necho changes his name to Jehoiakim, which is actually has a similar meaning. The name-change was the ultimate symbol of Necho's control and superiority.

Necho not only controlled the new king, but he demanded tribute, which was, of course, extracted from the "taxpayers". The weakness that resulted from this corruption made the Kingdom of Judah extremely vulnerable to the depredations of a new enemy, building strength and looming on the northern horizon...Babylon.
