At least Judism and Christianity actually HAVE these 'copies of copies of copies' to SHOW they were not 'translations of translations of translations'.

We can thank GOD thank a lot of the old doubts were cast away by finding the Dead Sea scrolls; and how comparing these REALLY old documents with the newest copies available showed that theywere pretty much exactly the same!

Besides the books of the Bible or the Torah and Talmud, there are the Avestan (dating from at least 700 BC), the Vedas (1700 BC), the Puranas (700 BC) etc. that are preserved accurately because the copiers had to copy the characters exactly and be rechecked for it to be completely accurate. They spent years if not decades keeping these perfectly accurate.
