What Is Better, Catholic or Protestant? Francis: “Both of Them Together”

The Youth Pastoral Office of Magdeburg diocese, Germany, will organize an October 2020 “ecumenical pilgrimage” for young people to Rome.

The motto of the journey is “With Luther to the Pope”. A similar trip was already taken in 2016.

The pilgrimage is co-organized by the regional Protestant State church, although the Protestants repudiate pilgrimages.

On the trip's webpage Mit-Luther-zum-Papst.de, the tour operator, Hans Höffmann, remembers what Pope Francis said to the participants of the 2016 pilgrimage when asked by a youngster: "What is better, Catholic or Protestant? Francis answered in German: "Both of them together!”

Martin Luther attended school in Magdeburg as a boy. As a preacher, he led the city to defect from the Church. Magdeburg became the first major city to publish Luther’s writings.

Nowhere in Scripture is there “sola scriptura”.

Besides, Catholics continually tell us that nobody can know if they are saved until they get to heaven and find out. And that to be sure of your salvation is the *sin of presumption*

I believe this is precisely why some Roman Catholics wear this idol. They are in fear of going to hell.

They are believing the words of the apparition that they will avoid the eternal fire over the words of the Savior.

Jesus told this to Nicodemus.

14“As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; 15so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life. John 3:14-15 NASB

Jesus was either telling Nicodemus the truth or He was lying to Him.

I'm taking Him at His word.

“Moral principles do not depend on a majority vote.

Sorry; but this is EXACTLY how Catholic 'doctrine' gets written in stone: a bunch of men VOTE!

Sorry. I don’t have to show anything or justify my opinion/observations to you or anyone else on this forum. And when I said ‘it’s not right’ I was referring to the Catholic bashing coming from Protestants.

Nowhere in the Bible is a POPE mentioned.

It is not a doctrine or requirement of the Faith -- no more than a christening dress or a wedding ring.

Nobody ever said it was a church doctrine or requirement of faith.

Why do you keep arguing against things nobody ever said?

The principle of relying upon Scripture, and only Scripture is crystal clear.

2 Timothy 3:14-17 New International Version (NIV)

14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

If Sola was good enough for Paul to recommend to Timothy; why isn't it still ok?

Perhaps you need to get in touch with your fellow Roman Catholics and clue them in.

There are hundreds of millions of Catholics who have lived generation after generation and never wore, never owned, maybe never even heard of a scapular. It is not a doctrine or requirement of the Faith -- no more than a christening dress or a wedding ring.

But... but.... 'Mary' made these PROMISES; you see...

The 15 promises

(Given to St. Dominic and Blessed Alan de la Roche)

1 Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive powerful graces.
2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.
3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies
4. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of people from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.
6. Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying Himself to the consideration of its Sacred Mysteries shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise Him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just, he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life.
7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church.
8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plentitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the Saints in Paradise.
9. I  shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.
10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in Heaven.
11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.
12. All those who propagate the Holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.
13. I  have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death
14. All who recite the Rosary are my children, and brothers and sisters of my only Son, Jesus Christ.
15. Devotion of my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.

"The Most Holy Virgin in these last times in which we live has given a new efficacy to the recitation of the Rosary to such an extent that there is no problem,

no matter how difficult it is, wheter temporal or above all spiritual, in the personal life of each one of us, of our families...that cannot be solved by the Rosary.

There is no problem, I tell you, no matter how difficult it is, that we cannot resolve by the prayer of the Holy Rosary."

Sister Lucia dos Santos

The Catholic Church is a part of the great family 🌳 tree called Christianity.

Uh...
...they do NOT seem to think so...

"One indeed is the universal Church of the faithful, outside which no one at all is saved, in which the priest himself is the sacrifice, Jesus Christ, whose body and blood are truly contained in the sacrament of the altar under the species of bread and wine; the bread (changed) into His body by the divine power of transubstantiation, and the wine into the blood, so that to accomplish the mystery of unity we ourselves receive from His (nature) what He Himself received from ours."

--Pope Innocent III and Lateran Council IV (A.D. 1215)

"We are compelled in virtue of our faith to believe and maintain that there is only one holy Catholic Church, and that one is apostolic. This we firmly believe and profess without qualification. Outside this Church there is no salvation and no remission of sins, the Spouse in the Canticle proclaiming: 'One is my dove, my perfect one. One is she of her mother, the chosen of her that bore her' (Canticle of Canticles 6:8); which represents the one mystical body whose head is Christ, of Christ indeed, as God. And in this, 'one Lord, one faith, one baptism' (Ephesians 4:5). Certainly Noah had one ark at the time of the flood, prefiguring one Church which perfect to one cubit having one ruler and guide, namely Noah, outside of which we read all living things were destroyed… We declare, say, define, and pronounce that it is absolutely necessary for the salvation of every human creature to be subject to the Roman Pontiff."

--Pope Boniface VIII, Bull Unam sanctam (A.D. 1302)

ummm...Scripture seems to disagree with you.

but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence; 1 Peter 3:15

Out of curiosity....are you Cooperative Baptist?

I am SO glad that it NEVER comes from the opposite direction.

It would make the RCC folks seem so; so...

...hypocritical.

If you do not see the blasphemies and heresies in Roman Catholicism then perhaps you should re-evaluate your assumed relationship with The Lord Christ Who IS The Truth made flesh. Or perhaps you are just ignorant of the facts concerning that religion, Roman Catholicism?

I see...

1 Peter 3:15

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with.
