I thank God for bringing us to the LCMS.
Life long member. I thank God for placing me there and also g them to stand firm on sound doctrine. Pray for your parties and pray we continue to stand firm against the increasing apostasy. The hour is late.
Yikes! big fingers little keyboard . Pray for your pastors it should have said
I dropped out of school after I finished the seventh grade
but I have believed in a creator from my first memories, I went
to church twice before I was 32 years old, but never knew who
Jesus was.
In the sixties there were hippies at the rest areas claiming to
be Jesus and I had seen so called pictures of him so in about
1971 I started reading the Bible to satisfy my self that Jesus
was just a hippy of his day.
I won’t go into details but the first things I came upon was that
Jesus was anything but how most religions portrayed him.
I quickly became a believer and have found a few non denominal
churches that I like but I have no use at all for the religious
institutes, because it’s as you said not a religion but faith.
That is true.

Thank you!
United Methodist is NCC and theyre more left wing political than Christian. ELCA also NCC. Its a reliable litmus test; if a church belongs to the NCC, theyre left wing crazy political.
How old is God?
Ditto.
God is eternal.
He is Risen Indeed
I have been reading the documents.
The only I have issue with is the one on cremation, since I feel it is not well thought out.
No gay marriage. No sex out side of marriage.
2 Peter 3:8
“If anything the first light sounds more like the light given off by a nebula or some other process.”
It is the Glory of God through Jesus Christ shinning into His creation to which upon the manifestation of Christ now shines in our hearts. Good example is Exodus 24:16.
2 Corinthians 4:6
For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.
Romans 1:20
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.
God is eternal.
...My background is equally in the sciences and in theology."
If you are indeed educated in natural science, then you know it does not deal in words like "truth", "belief" or "faith".
Instead, science begins with facts, which it defines as confirmed observations, and hypotheses, meaning falsifiable explanations.
Explanations which have been tested and not falsified, science calls theories, of which, for example, evolution is one.
The scientific problem with any literally "young earth" explanation is that there are far too many facts (= confirmed observations) which would falsify such ideas.
We are left then to wonder, if God did, indeed, create the Universe in six of our days, He did so while leaving us many clues that it's vastly older -- 13+ billion years older.
And neither the Bible nor science itself suggest any potential explanations for that.
But the Bible does suggest that a "day" to God is not the same as a day to us, for example:
Since the Bible does not give a single equation of "one day = X number of years", it should be permissible to accept whatever natural explanations for ages of Earth & Universe seem most likely.
You disagree on scientific grounds, biblical grounds or both?
The Synod has been true to God’s Word on this matter. Largely, this is true, but in certain quarters, at the behest of a more liberal pastor, certain congregations have allowed that agenda to be advanced. The vast majority, I believe, still maintain that it is a sin, and like any other can be repented and forgiven, but never accepted.
