End Times Complacency Spreading Through The Church

n 1970, Hal Lindsey published The Late Great Planet Earth. The book sold millions of copies and introduced a generation to the miraculous fulfillment of end times bible prophecies in our day and time.

Coming on the heels of World War II, the rebirth of Israel, the Six Day War, and widespread societal upheaval, many were convinced the rapture would take place before the end of the decade. But the 1970's came and went, and Jesus did not return.

Then, in the 1980's and 1990's, numerous bible prophecy books with titles like "Countdown to Armageddon" and "Final Warning" sold all over the world. Again, many people were convinced Jesus would return before the end of the century. Yet Jesus didn't come.

Then the world experienced Y2K, the September 11th terrorist attacks, and the phenomenal success of the Left Behind series. Once again, it seemed as though Jesus would return at any moment. But once again, he didn't. And then something happened. Complacency set it.

At the last count I saw, the rapture predictors are batting something like 0 for 287.

Be aware that NLT is a paraphrase, not an equivalent translation.

There is thought that the False Prophet will have the people of the Earth erect an image to the Antichrist after the Antichrist (the Man of Sin, the Son of Perdition) declares himself to be “God”. The “day” here is the Day of the Lord.

2 Thessalonians 2:3-5 King James Version

3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

We know the Season not the date.
Date-setters give every Bible Believing Christian a bad name and have caused more damage to Christianity than any Muslim horde could possibly do IMHO.

The whole point of the article can be summed up in your first paragraph. The “I am tired of it” part especially. That is where complacency sets in. You are not alone in your feelings, if we are to be honest.

The Late Great planet earth was just another one of the very many people since Scofield who try to make money from their never-ending future fapture when Jesus was very clear about “this generation will not pass until it see’s”

We aren’t in the end times - the end of the age happened with the destruction of the second temple in 69 AD as prophesied in the book of the Apocalypse of John of Patmos.

The Old Testament had the concept of the Trinity - God walks in the garden, there are 3 who come to visit Lot in Sodom etc.

The Bible does not say a military alliance of Russia, Iran, Turkey — the first two are not mentioned in the book of Revelations.

Gog and Magog were city states in what is now Turkey.

Russia is a Christian country.

A number of muslim countries ALREADY attacked Israel in 1948 and 1965.

And the book of revelations doesn’t mention the fake religion of Islam, but talks of the pagan nations around Israel in 69 AD

The Bible - the books of Matthew and John of Patmos talk of the end times as the end times of the age - culminating with the destruction of the 2nd temple in Jerusalem.

the book of Daniel talks of the 4 empires:
1. Golden head, Lion - NEO-BABYLONIAN EMPIRE (the symbol of babylonia was the lion)
2. Silver body - bear with 3 ribs - ACHAEMENID PERSIA - the three ribs being Pars, Medea and Mesopotamia, the 3 centers of the empire
3. Bronze hips - the leopard - MACEDONIAN-GREEK empire - the leopard symbolizing the speed of Alexander’s conquests
4. Iron legs giving way to iron-clay feet - ROMAN empire - Rome ultimately fraying.

The rock unhewn by human hands that destroys the above and becomes a mountain that encompasses the earth - Christ and Christianity.

Then move to the book of the Apocalypse of St John - clearly starting off as talking of the city “where the Lord was crucified” it talks of this harlot-city of Jerusalem of 69 AD riding the beast (the roman empire) - but eventually getting devoured by the beast (the same beast which appeared slain but came back and wowed others - as the Roman empire did after the cataclysm of 68 AD)

The mistake is to identify Antiochus IV as the little horn in the 8th to 12th chapters - that is a mix with the later vision referring to Antiochus.

Remember that Jesus said in Matt 24:15 “So when you see the desolating sacrilege spoken of by the prophet Daniel standing in the holy place... flee to the mountains”. Jesus thus claims the prophecies of Daniel.

Jesus prophesied that the generation listening to Him would see yet another abomination in 70 AD - within 40 years (one generation) of His death.

Nero fits the details of the little horn 7:20 says the little horn shall “speak words against the Most high” - and nero enforced emperor worship.

And the description of the small horn uprooting three others - he killed his wife, Octavia, daughter of Claudius, poisoned Claudius and murdered Britannicus.

Daniel says in 7:25 that the “little horn will wage war against the law for a time, tow times nd half a time” — meaning 3.5 years - the exact duration of the Jewish-Roman war

Makes sense. This was not a prophecy merely for a history lesson. He’s describing the way it will always be. History tends to rhyme with itself.

I tell such people that...”While there have always been those who’ve declared that the signs of the end times are simply things that have always gone on for 2000 years, that there are 2 notable differences. Israel stands as a nation as predicted in prophecy and the 2nd is the explosion of science and knowledge without true wisdom as to what to do with that knowledge(”the people will travel to and fro” depicts a world wide restlessness of spirit of the peoples of the world) as predicted in Daniel.

Get back to us when you can cite in history when 2 great meteors hit the Earth and oceans or falls of great hail stones weighing like big boulders all over the Earth, or when the 3.5 year period occured when 2 mysterious witnesses go around witnessing, having the power to shut off rain or to have those devoured with fire when folks try to harm them.

There is nothing in the Bible that says the next temple will be or should be where the last one was. A group of Rabbinical students in 2002 made that point when they placed a symbolic corner stone for a new temple next to the wailing wall. It caused a bit of an uproar but the point was made.

The temple could be built anywhere in Jerusalem, it doesn’t have to be where the Dome of the Rock is now. Look it up, the Bible says the temple will be rebuilt; it doesn’t say where! The temple can be rebuilt at anytime God chooses ...there are no real impediments , since the location question is a moot point!

Sigh, Israel was established as a nation in 1948 - more than 70 years ago.

Daniel talks of the restoration of Jerusalem when in 538 BC Khorush the Great, the Achaemenid King of Kings decreed the rebuilding of the temple.

In 520 BC Daryush (Ezra 6:3-12) issued a second decree.

The book of revelations does not mention meteors hitting the earth.

The reference in chapter 6:12-17 is about the end of the age, not the literal mountains moved from their places.

The book of the Apocalypse of St John is emphatically a symbolic book, not a literal book.

the mountains and island of chapter 6 refer to places of refuge disappearing.
