Luke 2:2832 records the realization of prophesy by Shimon, not induction as a talmid (disciple). Culturally speaking, there’s a bit more to the process of becoming a talmid. It’s a reasonably in-depth process. In that day, it involved immersion (baptism) “into” the teaching of whoever the talmid was following, among other things.
