Jesus is the Life Preserver. Mary is the Rope He Chose To Reel Us In.
The Most Ancient Tradition | 06-16-2019 | Charles O'Connell

In Captains Courageous, with Spencer Tracey, Freddy Batholomew is a blowhard millionaire's son who is socially, poorly adjusted. He uses his father's incredible wealth, to bully his classmates and even his teacher, but he's roundly disliked, and ostracized. While on an ocean liner, he unsuccessfully tries to impress some other boys by eating 5 ice cream sodas. When he has to throw up, to escape the mocking boys, he runs into a lifeboat area to evade their ridicule while purging his overindulgence, and manages to fall overboard into the ocean.

Instances of people falling overboard into the open ocean are rather commonly reported in the news. Usually they are lost, but if by chance their accidents are observed and a life-preserver is thrown to them, is that the end of the story, do we just say, "oh, well, you have a floatation device, you're okay now"?

No, we have to pull them in. The life-preserver, the lifesaver, is only part of the formula for saving their lives. There is also a rope, which must be attached to the life-preserver, and must be used to finally accomplish their salvation.

Jesus Christ is the one mediator between God and man. But on the man side of the equation, unlike the radical individuality most typified by J.J. Rousseau, we who life the life of Christians do so in communities. But even then, we do not abide as atomistic individualists. We live our Jesus-oriented life in relation to our fellows. "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching." – Hebrews 10:25.

Jesus' first disciple was his mother, who gave us the total account of his early life and who "treasured these things up in her heart". "A sword will pierce your own soul too, so that the secret thoughts of many hearts might be revealed". On the cross, he gave his mother to John to take in his home, but when you take your master's mother, she takes care of you.

Then God's temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant was seen within his temple; and there were flashes of lightning, voices, peals of thunder, an earthquake, and heavy hail. And a great portent appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars; she was with child and she cried out in her pangs of birth, in anguish for delivery.
And another portent appeared in heaven; behold, a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems upon his heads. His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven, and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to bear a child, that he might devour her child when she brought it forth; she brought forth a male child, one who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron, but her child was caught up to God and to his throne, and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, in which to be nourished for one thousand two hundred and sixty days. …
And when the dragon saw that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued the woman who had borne the male child. But the woman was given the two wings of the great eagle that she might fly from the serpent into the wilderness, to the place where she is to be nourished for a time, and times, and half a time. The serpent poured water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, to sweep her away with the flood. But the earth came to the help of the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed the river which the dragon had poured from his mouth. Then the dragon was angry with the woman, and went off to make war on the rest of her offspring, on those who keep the commandments of God and bear testimony to Jesus. - Rev 11:19 -- 12:17

She forms the body of Christ. She schools her son's disciples. Those who won't attend her school, remain ignorant.

We are in a time when any merely human institution would be washed away. Our churches are going under the shadow of a new Heresy of Ba'al of Peor, as when the Hebrew people were successfully attacked and overwhelmed through human sexuality. Our churches are now pro-gay and as soon as the civil authority authorizes child sex, they will be indistinguishable from the denizens of the town of Sodom: "Bring them out that we may know them".

Jesus' mother forms the few of the elect who will resist being fooled by the great apostasy. Those who will not avail themselves of the lifeline of Mary, will be lost.

Not true at all.

They'll have nothing to do with meat. They'll NOT eat the cat's food; even the dry stuff; but they will eat the duck's food.

The cat's will not eat the goat food, but the ducks will; as well as the cat food.

(Sounds like one of those puzzles about getting the animals across the river; doesn't it!)

Goats WILL consume paper products: cardboard, your napkin, the mail, the box your newly bought 5 pounds of nails came in, apples (these they WILL eat off the ground; whether containing worms or not), the bark off of the apple tree (when they were young), instructions to the grill you just bought, and the wood/plywood material from any barnyard toy you've made them.

They do help a bit with brush control, but they are greatly out numbered by the amount of brush I have. Like fine wine (to a goat) is aged brush - or not. Sometimes they'll eat it green; other times it has to sit for a spell. They'll even brave the flames of a burning brush pile to retrieve a choice specimen that I have failed to let them inspect first.

We’ve all seen the pictures of a goat ‘eating’ a tin can.

Actually, all he wants is the paper label.

I’ve lost many a label to them from the garden chemicals with the small booklet attached. I’ve had to go online to find out the dilution ratio for bug spray, weed killer, fertilizer...

The wife says if I’d just LEAVE them in the barn/pasture, none of this would happen.

“What part of it did he get direct from Jesus? If none, then the Bible was written from oral tradition. It is generally known that Paul never laid eyes on Jesus.”

Paul did met extensively with Christ when he was struck on the Road to Damascus and when he was caught up into the heavens to meet Him.

... but “ALL Scripture is inspired by God”

That includes the books by Paul.

God has always preserved His Word.

As sovereign and omnipotent, He is always in control.

PS - every word of Scripture is inspired, regardless of the opinions of men. Their inspiration and authority comes directly from Him.

Name names!!

I’ve never met a “Catholic hater,” unless you mean the Catholic guy who hates your pope and posts about him every day.

Every word in scripture was handed down orally, so it has to be unreliable

No wonder you are Roman Catholic.

You do not understand Scripture is from God, as His Holy Spirit moved men.

Each word chosen by Him.

You just espoused an extremely low view of Scripture. If you really believe that, no wonder you post as you do FRiend.

Have you ever read the Scriptures and seen what they say?

Just wow.

Cc: pinging all Catholic lovers. This one needs triage.

“How do you prove that.”

You read what God says...

“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;”

Then you study to show yourself approved by studying to see what all of Scripture says about inspiration.

“You fit the bill

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I have a multitude of Catholics I love and want to go to heaven.

I disagree with the perversion of the Gospel of Grace Rome teaches.

I would like to extend a special thanks to whoever had to ping all the noted Catholic haters to gang up on a couple of people. In my experience, people who only fight with a gang are not particularly noble.

You might want to ask which of your Roman Catholic friends(?) are the ones to cry to mgt about "Catholic bashing" and attempt to have people banned, threads pulled, etc when the true teachings of Roman Catholicism are called into question.

BTW...I'll play any Roman Catholic one on one in these debates.

Answer this one. Paul wrote a good portion of the NT. What part of it did he get direct from Jesus? If none, then the Bible was written from oral tradition.

Yes...and your point...if you have one?

You make a grave error in your "logic". You presume it was all oral tradition.....it could have been the Holy Spirit guiding Paul to write what he did without any oral tradition.

As a side note, the Bible was in the possession of those evil Catholics for 1500 years, who also decided what books were inspired, so I sure wouldn’t trust it either!

Roman Catholicism did not dogmatically declare their canon until the Council of Trent....some 1500 years after the texts were written.

I always find it interesting that NONE of the writings Roman Catholics cling to as being equal to Scripture, and in some cases superior, were not included in their canon at Trent. The chance was there to incorporate them into the canon but Rome did not. That is very telling.

it is time for the jury to decide about Sola Scriptura.

You forgot one:

2 Thessalonians 2:15 So then, brothers, stand firm, and cling to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by our letter.

So what you are saying is ...”Every word in scripture is unreliable?”

The Jewish people had scribes who were in charge of the manuscripts. They were so meticulous about doing it perfect that they counted all the paragraphs, words and even letters so they would know if they had copied correctly. They even knew the middle letter of each book so they could count back and see if they had missed anything.

The oldest complete copy of a Hebrew Old Testament in museums today are dated about A.D.1000. That’s a long time after the originals were written (1450-400 B.C.), so one could question if after many centuries of copying we really have the original words. That’s where the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls in 1947 is so helpful. These well-preserved texts date back to 100 B.C. Amazingly, there is virtual agreement between the Dead Sea Scrolls and those dated 1,100 years later! This proves we can trust the Hebrew copies of the Old Testament that are existing today.

The reliability of the New Testament Greek texts is even more certain than the Old Testament texts. The New Testament was written A.D.45 – A.D.90. Some fragments of Greek texts exist that date back to A.D.120 and A.D.150. That’s only 35-100 years after the originals that Paul, John, Luke and others wrote! Another big help is that there are 4000-5000 New Testament Greek manuscripts existing today. By comparing these many copies, scholars can weed out possible copying mistakes. Compare these two factors of Date and Number of existing manuscripts and copies with other literature that historians consider accurate.

catholics are not evil, but some of the official doctrine of the Roman church is. As for catholics compiling and keeping scripture if that were true I would not trust it. However scripture is breathed inspired chosen and protected by the Holy Spirit and I trust Him with all my being.

f it's in ITALICS; it's a "quote" from you.

Whether you use ITALICS or not, you said I claimed there existed a lengthy list. I claimed no such thing.
