President Donald Trump commemorated the 40th Anniversary of Pope John Paul IIs first trip to Poland, calling him Sunday a champion for human dignity and religious liberty.
In a Presidential Message released on June 2 in Commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of Pope John Paul IIs First Pilgrimage to Poland, Mr. Trump said that St. Pope John Paul IIs nine-day visit to Poland in 1979 changed the course of history.
"As we remember the long struggle of the Polish people against communism, we also acknowledge that millions of people now live in freedom because of St. Pope John Paul II and his extraordinary life as a follower of Jesus Christ and a champion for human dignity and religious liberty, the president said in his message.
In that first homily as pope delivered on Polish soil, St. John Paul delivered a powerful message of hope to the crowd gathered in Warsaw, to all of Poland, and to the world, Trump said. His words stood tall against the repressive forces of communism throughout Poland and the rest of Europe and he inspired courage in the hearts of millions of men and women to seek a better, freer life.
On that occasion, while Poland was still under the rule of atheistic communism, Pope John Paul insisted that Jesus Christ is the key to understanding the nature and meaning of the human person and cannot be excluded from society.

Someone should draw a silhouette-like image of Ronald Reagan handing off the American Flag to Donald Trump.
No one in between really did.
And Trump said the words “Jesus Christ”.
liberal heads are exploding all over the country.
Good.
Trump is on (Holy Spirit) FIRE right now. Prayers for him are being answered. Delivered a great speech at Queens State Banquet too. There were a few moments I got chills...Credit also due speechwriter Stephen Miller an whoever else on that front.
Keep on praying.
Good man. Pope John Paul II certainly did tear down the wall. Along with Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher.
A great trio underrated by our subversive anti American republican establishment, democrat socialist commmunists and the divulging media.
God love that great trio.
Legendary.
Pope John Paul Has been declared, canonized, a saint
It was the Iron Triangle. President Reagan. Prime Minister Thatcher. John Paul the Great.
God bless Donald Trump.
Prayers for this good man are so important.
I also got chills.
Meanwhile, the current Pope is doing his DAMNEDEST to turn the entire globe into a Communist Green New Deal dystopia...
Amen to that. I was raised Catholic and John Paul was the main reason I stayed. Benedict wasn’t bad either.
I have always had problems with certain Catholic doctrines, e.g. purgatory. I’ve done a lot of reading and soul-searching and come up with the odd realization that what I really believe — and have believed most of my adult life — is more along the lines of traditional Lutheranism.
But leadership counts for a lot. And during John Paul’s reign, we had that, and I was proud and happy to follow this great and holy man.
Now there’s a commie in the Vatican, and I’m not sure which way to turn.
Pope Francis is saddened
Stalin once asked how many divisions the Pope had. When JP2 was Pope, my reply was legions of angels.
Trump’s speech at Queen’s State Banquet brought tears to my eyes. It was a great speech.
God Bless the USA and UK
JP II was an 80s hero.
