Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Old Testament)

1 Kings 7

Solomon Builds His Palace

7 It took Solomon thirteen years, however, to complete the construction of his palace. 2 He built the Palace of the Forest of Lebanon a hundred cubits long, fifty wide and thirty high,[a] with four rows of cedar columns supporting trimmed cedar beams. 3 It was roofed with cedar above the beams that rested on the columns—forty-five beams, fifteen to a row. 4 Its windows were placed high in sets of three, facing each other. 5 All the doorways had rectangular frames; they were in the front part in sets of three, facing each other.[b] 6 He made a colonnade fifty cubits long and thirty wide.[c] In front of it was a portico, and in front of that were pillars and an overhanging roof. 7 He built the throne hall, the Hall of Justice, where he was to judge, and he covered it with cedar from floor to ceiling.[d] 8 And the palace in which he was to live, set farther back, was similar in design. Solomon also made a palace like this hall for Pharaoh’s daughter, whom he had married. 9 All these structures, from the outside to the great courtyard and from foundation to eaves, were made of blocks of high-grade stone cut to size and smoothed on their inner and outer faces. 10 The foundations were laid with large stones of good quality, some measuring ten cubits[e] and some eight.[f] 11 Above were high-grade stones, cut to size, and cedar beams. 12 The great courtyard was surrounded by a wall of three courses of dressed stone and one course of trimmed cedar beams, as was the inner courtyard of the temple of the Lord with its portico.

(End of Scripture Passage)

Solomon doesn't just build The Temple. He continues on with Palaces, Public Buildings, and other structures to make Jerusalem a "World-Class City".

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Those who have been on this Thread for a little while know that I have devised a Bible reading method that has given me a wonderful way of reading the whole Book several times a year in a balanced way. It all started when an eight-year old guitar student in Florida gave me eight matching clip-on bookmarks. I placed these eight bookmarks into my study Bible, four in the OT and four in the NT.

Here is the placement:

Old Testament:

1. The Torah (Genesis-Deuteronomy)
2. History (Joshua-Esther)
3. Poetry (Job-Song of Solomon)
4. The Prophets (Isaiah-Malachi)

New Testament:

1. The Gospels (Matthew-John)
2. The Book of Acts
3. The Letters (Romans-Jude)
4. The book of Revelation

Because Acts and Revelation are so short, I read them over a dozen times a year. The Torah, the Gospels, the Letters and Poetry get about two full readings each year, History and the Prophets maybe once each. We are currently synced up with my personal readings in the History section, so instead of this being a Topical Study (Like the one about the Temple, or "Jobs in the Bible") we are getting an overview of the Kingdom Period in the History of the people of Israel.

However, even though we are just reading this section as narrative, we can still glean tremendous riches from reading. We can get an idea of the glory of Solomon's reign, his amazing building program, his political marriages and alliances, and his eventual drift away from the One True God.

When the History is read in conjunction with Solomon's Poetry (Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon) we can see his personality changes as well.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV)

God Bless America!

‘Read your commentaries everyday. Always inspiring.

At the risk of being forward, are you aware of Dennis Prager’s “The Rational Bible”? He has so far released his commentaries on Exodus and then Genesis, in that order, with Numbers coming next.

They are designed for Christians and Jews alike (and muslims to whatever extent such minds can be reached).

As I’m most familiar with Torah, I have yet found a lot of his insights very deep and moving.

Very good references all around.

May you have a very Holy day!

You might not recall, but a few of us Tennessean ladies had a Saturday morning Bible study group and one of the first topics that we covered was your “Jobs in the Bible” lessons. Your influence probably extends much farther than you think it does!
