My question is why is China even pretending to tolerate Catholicism?

I mean they are, but we know it’s mostly a fraud.

Since when did they care what the outside world thought?

Heck they’re putting millions of muslims into camps.

Forget the Nut for a minute. What is different about Catholics in the eyes of the communist regime? Is it because they are not causes atrocities all over the world like muzzies so Chinese govt. thinks they’re less of a threat?

The Uighurs have separatist notions. The Catholics do not. They just want the State to leave them alone to worship God as they choose.

But totalitarian regimes cannot tolerate any alternative focus of allegiance whatsoever. They need the country to be an undifferentiated anthill.
