However individual salvation is based on Gods judgement. St. Paul states: I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not thereby justified [Gk., dedikaiomai]. It is the Lord who judges me (1 Cor. 4:4) St Paul was referring to works of the Jewish law of the Old Testament. Actually, no, he was not. How about some CONTEXT?
This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful. But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by any human court. In fact, I do not even judge myself.
For I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not thereby acquitted. It is the Lord who judges me. Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God.
I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another. For who sees anything different in you? What do you have that you did not receive? If then you received it, why do you boast as if you did not receive it?(I Cor. 4:1-7)
He is talking about how OTHERS judge him by his manner of life - the SAME thing James speaks to. It is ludicrous that Paul would contradict himself and he never does nor could he since he is speaking as the Holy Spirit has inspired and moved him.

So, is faith without works dead, or isn't it?
Well, boatbums, I have a Bible text for you too (and for all bums, everywhere), as well as a great old song on youtube to share with you, for your pleasure and enjoyment, this April 1st. Here they go:
Bible Text: "Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise." Proverbs 6:6
Song: "Hallelujah! I'm A Bum!
Happy April 1st! :-)
Darn, it's April 2nd now! (Slow fingers) Oh well, Happy April 2nd, and goodnight to all!

It is amazing how some rationalize their personal interpretation of the Scripture from St Paul. Your comment: “He is talking about how OTHERS judge him by his manner of life”
At Paul states: “It is the Lord who judges me” at his death.
We are all judged by the Lord at our death, thus the process of individual salvation is determined then.
“Salvation is worked out in fear and trembling” (Phil 2:12) and “he who endures to the end will be saved” (Matt 10:22)
Some are selective and only use specific quotes to rationalize their beliefs, instead of understanding and accepting the full teaching of Jesus and His Church.
All human beings . . . are both impelled by their nature and bound by a moral obligation to seek the truth, especially religious truth. They are also bound to adhere to the truth once they come to know it and to direct their whole lives in accordance with the demands of truth. (Dignitatis Humanae 2)
G.K. Chesterton remarked that a person’s first step toward conversion is when he decided to be fair to the Catholic Church.
