Some conservative U.S. Catholics are dismayed by the official schedule for Pope Francis Vatican summit with bishops on clerical sex abuse that begins Thursday, saying it ignores the root cause of the scandal: gays in the priesthood.
They point to Cardinal Blase J. Cupich of Chicago, who will lead the nearly 200 bishops through three days of discussions and listening sessions addressing the clergy sexual abuse scandal, which has shaken the Roman Catholic Church to its foundation. He evaded questions on the topic of gay priests and their adult victims three times during a press conference Monday in Rome.

Sargent Schultz, “i see nothing”????
I believe he's one of the chief offenders.
Many Chicago Catholics live in a world of “at least he doesn’t...”
When I first came to a Chicago neighborhood with 23 Catholic churches I was amazed at the number of lay adults who would gossip about the priests and say “at least he isn’t doing it to altar boys ..or little boys.” They said this of priests who were doing adult men and priests who were doing adult women.
Decades later in my Catholic church in middle class suburb Schaumburg the adults would say of the 3 priests who co-owned a townhouse in Gay Town “at least they aren’t doing it to kids ... they are only doing it to consenting adults.” Of course, the people who said this had no firsthand knowledge of what the priests were doing to whom. It was all gossip.
The teenager gossip in both 1964 and 2014 was much more cynical... about laying on hands and blessing with oil and water and language not fit for this family site.
Although not mentioned as often as abortion, our priest do give homilies about traditional marriage. I think I also have heard homilies about same sex attraction.
Although not mentioned as often as abortion,...Pope Francis has said we talk too much about abortion and has warmly embraced Italy's foremost baby butcher, Emma Bonino on more than one occasion.
our priest do give homilies about traditional marriage...Pope Francis has trashed traditional marriage with Amoris Latitiae.
I think I also have heard homilies about same sex attraction.....Pope Francis has said, "Who am I too judge" and has warmly welcomed homosexual couples on several occasions with no admonitions to ammend their wicked lifestyles and he told a young homo, "God made you like that and loves you like that."
Fixed it.
