DC Comics pulls plug on Jesus comic series after over 230,000 people complain

A comic series that was to depict Jesus Christ coming back to earth as the sidekick for an all-powerful superhero has been axed after more than 230,000 people complained that it was 'blasphemous'.

The CitizenGo petition demanded that DC Comics pull the plug on the series called 'Second Coming', calling it 'outrageous and blasphemous'.

'Second Coming' had been planned as an ongoing title, with its first issue supposed to come out on March 6. The petition was started in January after the plot summary presented Jesus as weaker than another superhero in the story.

'Witness the return of Jesus Christ, as He is sent on a most holy mission by God to learn what it takes to be the true messiah of mankind by becoming roommates with the world's favorite savior: the all-powerful super hero Sun-Man, the Last Son of Krispex!' said the plot summary. 'But when Christ returns to Earth, he's shocked to discover what has become of his gospel—and now, he aims to set the record straight.'

'Second Coming' author Mark Russell angered people further when he talked more about the premise for the series in an interview with Bleeding Cool.

'God was so upset with Jesus's performance the first time he came to Earth, since he was arrested so soon and crucified shortly after, that he has kept him locked-up since then,' he said.

The CitizenGo petition said that the comic series was 'inappropriate' and that the story of Jesus 'should not be ridiculed for the sake of selling comic books'. 'Can you imagine the media and political uproar if DC Comics was altering and poking fun at the story of Muhammad... or Buddha?' the petition complained.

'This blasphemous content should not be tolerated. Jesus Christ is the Son of God. His story should not be ridiculed for the sake of selling comic books.'

Newsarama reports that DC Comics has now told retailers the series has been cancelled and that 'these issues will not be resolicited'.

They’re welcome to have a Mohammed superhero, who just goes around lopping off heads and raping children. I don’t think there will be too many complaints.

behind the scenes....
this was designed to appeal to Islamics around the world, who think that Jesus will come back as a weakling assistant to their stronger, true messianic Mohammadan figure... and Jesus will then abdicate, delivering the world’s Christian faithful to ((the)) Islam((ic Satan worship)), parens are my editorial additions, of course

It was going to be “Jesus good ! Orgainized religion bad”. The writer does decent light hearted comedy comics but he’s not nearly as clever as he thinks he is. Vertigo should have stayed dead after Sandman series ended.

If they did it about MoHAMmad they would have burned the place down and killed everyone there.

See, what it should have been was Jesus (complete with accent that I can’t seem to make appear), the Christian Luchador superhero.

I would read that.

Jesus as some jackasses sidekick. Amazing. Even more amazing I never heard a word about it. You’d think a story like that would get picked up here and there...

It probably would have made people who never go near a bible or a church think about Jesus.

I can’t see where that would have been bad...

According to Islam, God took Jesus to Heaven and sent another to the cross. Jesus will return with the Mahdi and demand Christians convert to Islam or die. The stories are kinda similar aren’t they?

Comic books aren’t what they used to be. Just another sign of the degradation of American society and intellectual intelligence levels.

I’m holding in my never Nicotine-stained hands “Action Comies” No. 297, Feb. 1963, D.C. entitled “The Man Who Discovered Superman’s Identity” and “House of Secrets”, DC Comics, No. 66, June 1964, “Eclipso, hero-Villain in One Man in “The Two Faces of Doom”.

Good art, good story lines, no attacks on American society and fun to read, and the comics of the 50’s were even better “Tarzan”, “Superman”, “Batman”, The Classic Comics stories, etc.

Glad people spoke up against this “new comic” attack on Jesus and religion in general. I’m just waiting for the Left to create a comic book series denigrating Moses for helping to create the “10 Commandants”, God for the miracle at the Dead Sea re Pharoah’s army, the Macabees victory over the Romans and the miracle of Chanukah (the olive oil lamp) as well as David defeating Goliath.

The Marxist, hate America Left is attacking every cultural, social, societal, educational and religious foundation of America. We must fight back every time, every where and defeat these traitors and their liberal stooges.

So let’s see...

The Second Coming was scheduled for March 6th, but 230,000 people complained so it got cancelled.

SMH.
