Franklin Graham to Cardinal Dolan: ‘Take a Moral Stand’ Against Gov. Cuomo
LifeSite News ^ | 1/30/19 | Doug Mainwaring

January 30, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – Protestant evangelist Franklin Graham, president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, took to Twitter urging New York’s Cardinal Timothy Dolan to “Take a moral stand.”

“The Catholic Church is discussing as to whether New York Governor Cuomo should be excommunicated from the church for signing the state’s new abortion bill,” he explained to his nearly two million followers. “This law allows for the murder of unborn children up until the day of their birth.”

“I call on my friend Cardinal Dolan to take a moral stand,” continued Graham. “Whether it moves the governor’s calloused heart or not, it will have a great impact on not only the church in New York, but on the church worldwide.”

“It’s about standing for right over wrong, good over evil,” he added.

Graham then quoted Albany Bishop Edward Scharfenberger, “I don't see it as something to celebrate … the kind of procedures that now are possible in New York state, we wouldn't even do to a dog or a cat. … It's torture.”

Bishop Scharfenberger has been outspoken in his criticism of Cuomo, saying that while excommunication is a last resort, Cuomo’s recent enshrining of virtually-unlimited abortion in the state as a “fundamental right” and then publicly celebrating the new law may be a tipping point that may leave the Church no other option.

It’s good to see a Protestant joining with the Catholic Church. (There should be more of them; where are they?)

Together the conservative Catholics and Protestants and Jews can influence the direction of the Congress and the state legislatures.

Rev. Graham is asking for the Christian comittment that Cardinal Dolan doesn’t have. He likes to run with the big dogs.

I think he’s urging Dolan to be Catholic.

Dolan as upper management for RCINC has already done the cost/benefit analysis of making a principled stand vs loss of collection plate revenue. Revenue maintenance is more important: Thus Dolan nor any American cardinal of RCINC will do Nothing.

When challenged during recent media appearances, Dolan has revealed himself to be buffoonish clown and a Leftist ‘RAT appeaser. He wrongly claims Cuomo would become a martyr if he excommunicated the dirtbag. That’s just bullsh*t. If American RC bishops and cardinals excommunicated 100% of these perverted politicians, the conversation about and support for life would immediately change for the better.

Good for you Reverend Graham.

It’s truly sad you have to remind him of his calling.

I honest to God wish that Franklin Graham were the Cardinal Archbishop of New Dork.

I would also like for him to be in charge of running a "Bishop Formation Program."

A lifelong Catholic who has to wonder why tools like Dolan can’t spike the ball on a such obvious decision?
The Catholic church has been corrupted! It needs a serious purge if guys like me are to remain.
Dolan is a politician who lost his way w Christ!
Shame on him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I understand where you're coming from, but Ithink you are not cynical enough.

It's not that Dolan thinks the Church would lose money/membership/influence. That's been happening for decades as these Keystone Kop Kardinals have been selling off church properties, paying off legal settlements, merging parishes and shutting down Catholic schools, etc.

Managing the decline. That's what they do. Not only are they entirely unspiritual. Disconnected from the care of souls. Irresolute or entirely AWOL when it comes to teaching, governing and sanctifying. But their unprincipled attempts to "save the institution" are actually causing millions to flee the institution.

It doesn't even make worldly sense.

How dumb is that?

Every single Christian church should have their pastors or ministers or elder or whatever be up in front of their congregation and demand that the attendees STOP supporting rats and their abortion.....

no more pussy footing around....

no more nice pretty words....

we see what the rats have done and there is no more equivocating about who must be voted for and who must be voted out...

1. Graham isn’t a Protestant; he’s Baptist / Evangelical.

2. What’s the big surprise? If you put 100 Catholics in a room, and 100 Evangelicals in the room, 50 Catholics will be for abortion and 0 Evangelicals will be for abortion. “Protestants” include Lutherans. Episcopalians, Presbyterians, Methodiists, etc., and many of them are pro abortion.

Dolan is a coward; he’s worried about possible losses of donations if he stands up for Catholic teaching and excommunicates demons like Cuomo.

And, I call him Andrew Mengele Cuomo because it’s, IMO, fitting. Anyone wonder if Andrew Mengele Cuomo and his Marxist cohorts in the DemonRAT party will be building camps for the Trump base, ya think?

It’s good to see a Protestant joining with the Catholic Church.

You've got it backwards. Graham is asking the Cardinal to join with the Protestants to oppose 9th month abortions. So far, the Cardinal hasn't been willing to take substantive action.
