The Gospel specifically says the parable was told to those who trusted in themselves and nothing about the Vatican style of confession. Nothing about a priest, nothing about having to do penance.

The parable specifically discusses two Jews in the Temple (where priests did serve). There is nothing about the Vatican style of confession, and nothing about having to do penance per se, although the Law of Moses penance would apply.

Instead, told to those who think their works can save themselves.

Not quite, it was to those which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:. There is no lesson of those who think their works can save them. Rather, the lesson is that every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. So the primary error was in despising others rather than having humility.

And Confession, because it is in Scripture, is not solely Roman catholic anyways.

Of course it is not solely Roman Catholic; it is practiced by Catholic (Roman or otherwise) and Orthodox Christians throughout the world.

Another, does not presume to be self assured, but knowing he is a sinner, confesses his sin to God and asks for mercy. Herein is one examination of conscience and confession of sin when there needs to be two.

I disagree bro. It was a parable, that probably is not meant to even be about assurance of salvation at all. It looks you are mind reading, as to what the Publican was thinking. You don’t really know if he had assurance of salvation or not. Was he already saved at this time? We don’t know. That may be the moment he WAS saved.
When I left the Catholic Church, and discovered true faith in Christ, as opposed to pseudo faith, I had been so steeped in the false doctrines of Catholicism, that it took me a couple of months to overcome those false doctrines, and have assurance of salvation.
I don’t know if you have assurance of salvation, but if not, maybe it’s time you got some. I think the idea, that a person (Elsie, personal pronoun alert) can not have assurance of salvation, is false doctrine. I don’t know why anyone would want to believe false doctrines, but, unfortunately, many people do.

Or more likely, one (personal pronoun alert) just simply refuses to listen, when the truth is told to them. There is a world full of people like that. When I heard the truth, I responded to it. Unfortunately, the vast majority of people just don’t.
In the end, it’s on them. We have done our job, to tell them the truth. It’s up to God to convict them of sin, righteousness and judgment. 👍😇

Keep telling the truth bro. There are millions of people, involved in false, spurious religions, who need to hear the truth. We don’t know who will respond to the truth, and who won’t, so we preach to all of them. I know that many people don’t want to hear the truth, but, ultimately, it’s on them. They are left without an excuse. None at all.
