People on Twitter are calling out President Donald Trump for failing to recite the Apostles Creed at the funeral for former President George H. W. Bush on Wednesday.
Footage from the event shows much of the church, including the former presidents seated with Trump, standing to recite the profession of faith.

And had Trump and Melania recited the prayer, the hue and cry would have been “how dare that profane, mean-spirited man pretend to pray in public!”
We are to refrain from vain repetitions, which for many are simply "empty words" recited without conviction. (Matthew 6:7). Jesus explains this and gives a model prayer for us to use. (Matthew 6:9ff). He doesn't say "pray these words", he says "after this manner pray ye...".
But get this -- people vainly repeat this as well!
It is breathtakingly absurd for the news media to lecture believers on Christian conduct!

I don’t do “summaries” of scripture; I post Scripture.
No man is authorized to summarize scripture, and especially not with contradictions thereof.
I don’t remember ever hearing of it.
I attended a Presbyterian Church up through the teens.
It’s a very good statement.
JOHN 8:44.
That’s it...he’s done. “The walls are closing in....”
Have you said The Lord's Prayer more than once?
They really got to be kiddiing.
I noticed. Good for him.
I attended Baptist, AG, and Evangelical Covenant churches most of my life, and none of them recited the Apostles Creed, though it is found in the back of most hymnals.
Good response
In the Episcopal (Anglican) Church, the Apostles creed is generally used in services where Holy Communion is not offered and the Nicene creed when Communion is celebrated, the Nicene being somewhat longer. As far as I know, all orthodox churches include one or the other. Some of the mainstream protestant churches may say the Apostles creed; I don’t know which ones those might be. I don’t know of any evangelical churches that say it.
When aortas abound, they can be
counted on to go for the capillary.
I attended a wedding several years ago where this creed was mindlessly repeated before the ceremony began.
I dont believe that. No one of any religion/denomination would do that.
Many Orthodox Christian churches also refer to themselves as Catholic, but definitely dont mean Roman Catholic!
I’m a Christian and I wouldn’t recite that if you paid me.
I for one, don’t approve of the catholic church.
Clinton looked like he could barley breath. He was sucking air with his mouth open.
Apostles Creed? Wasnt that the guy who fought Rocky in the movies?
I understand, believe you, and am not surprised.
Printed in hymnal but not reciting. Ok!
In the more “enthusiastic” assemblies, something _worse_ often replaces repetition.
Repetition can be good. You and I can’t tell from the outside who believes and who doesn’t.
I’m glad I learned the Apostle’s Creed in a Methodist church as a kid by weekly (uh, “endless”) repetition.
