Will Christian's get lost teeth, limbs, etc in heaven?
foreverfree | 11/8/18 | foreverfree

Posted on 11/08/2018 8:17:55 PM PST by foreverfree

In a few days, my 81 yo mother will be going to an oral surgeon to have two rotted rear teeth removed. In mid December, my dentist will extract a split tooth of mine. (I'd have it done sooner if not for my commuting schedule and the fact that she is booked solid on the only day of the week I'm available for the next few weeks.)

My mom and I are believing Christians (MO Synod Lutherans). Will we Christians get our lost body parts back when God takes us home? Please cite Scripture.

I ask this because my belief that we will have perfect bodies in heaven was shaken by a conversation my mom and I about that verse in Revelation “Behold I will make everything new”. Does that verse include the saved souls?

I ran a question to that effect past mom and she said (perhaps not paying attention), “I don’t think God’s worried about that.” This has shaken my faith.

Will my mom and I lose the teeth we’ve lost and are about to lose for eternity? What about amputees such as my mom’s aunt/my great aunt, who died in her 80’s in 1981, legless and blind from diabetes? Will they remain limbless in heaven?

Please help me on this.

Hopefully he’s up there with all of those scary critters and having fun with them. Again - it was after the Fall that there was enmity between humans and the serpents. (Present company excepted!) In heaven the lion will lay down with the lamb. And snakes.

My daughter wanted to get a “rescue” tortoise when she was a kid. But in order to do so we had to go 4 times to the local reptile (herpitilogical?) meeting that met once a month to show she was committed. Of course after the first visit she wanted a snake!

I told her that would be cool - but I thought mom was being pretty good about the whole tortoise thing, and lets just be happy with that!

An aside - oh for the good old days when the biggest stress in a parent/child relationship was whether to allow her to have a tortoise or not!

"Because the Hebrew concept of body-mind-spirit is completion. Without one of these, there is no person."

If one believes in the trinitarian nature of God, and one also believes that we are created in His image, I'm not sure how one could see it any other way. Why would God, in three persons, make us in His image, and omit one part or the other?

Bodies rot and return to dust...some are cremated and other blown to smithereens...they will all become whole and healthy and without flaw.

We will get all new perfect bodies.

What happens to these bodies will make no difference.

In Heaven, there is no beer,
That’s why we drink it here.

You should get the teeth back if you haven’t already sold them to the tooth fairy.....

I definitely believe your resurrection body will be complete and perfect. If someone who was cremated gets their whole body back (and they must) then I believe everyone else does also.

On the other hand, seeing as how he fell after being created without original sin, did God give him a chance to repent,or was he like Satan without one? And if He did, did Adam accept it? We cannot know, but I incline to the view that Adam blew his chance

Matt 6:25-34

25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Regarding your father as an “animal assassin” — What were the
“scary critters” he was killing? Is your local pest control company also an ‘animal assassin?’ I see you father as a person who came in response to the pleas of his neighbors to rid them of animal pests that were threatening them and their property. I once killed a raccoon that was killing out barn cats, that kept the mice under control and the raccoon also ate the stored corn, thus it was a “double” pest.

It shook my faith that we will have incorruptible bodies in heaven.

As a good MO Synod Lutheran, you should know that isn't a 'faith' issue since the subject matter isn't Jesus Christ. The subject of 'faith' is always and only Christ, nothing else.

John calls Jesus “the firstborn from the dead” (Revelation 1:5). In His post-resurrection appearances, and in those foretold in Revelation, we get a vivid picture of His glorified body. We shall rise similarly, although of course without His divine attributes.

That is an incorrect interpretation because it is out of the context of the question asked by the saducees of jesus. [...] The question asked of jesus concerned marriage in heaven, not sex in heaven.

1. I interpreted nothing. Rather, I offered a direct quote - though, of course, my choosing that particular passage in response to the question will necessarily reflect my subjective view of the matter.

2. Any question answered by Jesus concerning marriage in Heaven will necessarily also be valid for questions concerning sex in Heaven - and vice-versa. But if you can find a better quote by Jesus concerning sex in Heaven, then I invite you to provide it.

Regards,

No need for a physical body in the presence of God.
