Trump suggests armed guards for all houses of worship, stiffening death penalty in wake of shooting

There’s nothing he can do.

Massacres like the one that unfolded at a Pittsburgh synagogue have “little to do” with lax gun laws and are “even tougher when you're the President of the United States and you have to watch this kind of a thing happen,” President Trump said Saturday afternoon.

Trump painted himself as a helpless observer unable to prevent such tragedies, despite being the leader of the free world.

“For me, as President, to watch any of this go, you know, before I ran for office, I'd watch incidents like this with churches and other things and think, what a shame, what a shame,” he said. “But it's even tougher when you're the President of the United States and you have to watch this kind of a thing happen. It is so sad to see.”

Instead of strengthening gun laws, the commander-in-chief suggested the U.S. should “stiffen up our laws in terms of the death penalty” and advised houses of worship to hire armed protection.

“This has little to do with (gun laws) if you take a look," Trump said. “If they'd had protection inside, the result would have been a lot better.”

”Maybe it could have been a very much different situation,” he added.

At least 11 people were killed and six injured — including four police officers — when suspected gunman Robert Bowers opened fire on dozens of congregants inside the Tree of Life synagogue.

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a prominent gun reform advocacy group, countered Trump sentiment on Saturday.

“Americans should be able to worship in peace, without the threat of being gunned down,” the group tweeted.

Trump later addressing the Future Farmers of America convention in Indianapolis called the attack a “wicked act of mass murder” that “is pure evil, hard to believe and frankly something that is unimaginable.”

He added that anti-Semitism “must be confronted anywhere and everywhere it appears”

The President’s initial comments Saturday closely echoed the National Rifle Association’s usual talking points in the wake of such shootings.

The nation’s largest gun lobbying group often repeats the claim that a “good guy with a gun” is the only way to deter attacks on at public spaces such as malls, schools, houses of worship and elsewhere.

“They had a maniac walk in and they didn't have any protection and that is just so sad to see," Trump said. "The results could have been much better.”

The President also reiterated his long-held belief in capital punishment.

“When people do this, they should get the death penalty and shouldn’t have to wait years and years,” he said before departing for the Future Farmers of America convention and a political rally in Murphysboro, Ill.

“Now the lawyers will get involved, and everybody’s going to get involved, and we’ll be 10 years down the line. I think they should stiffen up laws, and I think they should very much bring the death penalty into vogue,” he said.

In 1989, two weeks after a female jogger was raped, beaten and left for dead in Central Park, Trump paid $85,000 to place a series of ads calling for the state to “Bring Back The Death Penalty! Bring Back Our Police.”

The ads ran in New York newspapers after five teens, later exonerated by DNA evidence, were arrested and charged with the crime

Agrred. Carry. Get church folks to carry. No CCW in Indiana, but a carry license (Indiana allows open and concealed).

And there are now emerging many good courses for church security and even security, which include firearms training and how to deploy and position armed members or your church or other organization.

Worship, go to school, go to work, live in your home, not be kidnapped, raped or murdered, go to an entertainment venue, a political rally, etc. I’ve been an armed security guard, soldier, state security police and bodyguard. Security is expensive.

According to local coverage over the weekend virtually ALL synagogues in the D.C. area already have armed guards.

Makes sense given the high concentration of Islamist-types there.

Armed guards at all houses of worship

I went to a large metropolitan church yesterday that had multiple uniformed law enforcement personnel on hand (as usual.) And I feel certain there were multiple armed and anonymous CCW members there as well.

The larger the congregation and the more urban, the more armed security needed. It's just a fact of living among demokkkrats.

God Bless them.

Frankly I am very surprised that after all ugly sex abuse revelations of the last couple of months in the RCC, there have not been any shootings at any Catholic Church.
